Saw this on the Xbox One board, wanted to get your opinions.

I may be enjoying The Frozen Wilds more than I did the main game of Horizon.

Also, I like the Hot Wheels map better than anything else on Forza Horizon 3.

Dark Souls 2's DLC was the best part. Hell, all Souls DLC is at least equal to the main game.

I'd put in some lyrics to whatever song is stuck in my head currently here, but it's an instrumental. Dang.

Maybe the expansions to The Witcher 3? It's a tricky comparison to make because they build off what makes The Witcher 3 so compelling, but aspects of each are better than the main game (and vice versa). Regardless, both of the expansions to that game are incredible and better than most games in any given year.

I did enjoy both HL2 episodes more than the main game.

I wouldn't go that far, but Minerva's Den is definitely much better than 2. The story is fantastic and the entire experience is very well designed.

oh duh this is such an obvious answer

it's a proto-fullbright game that pays homage to immersive sims and does it encased in bioshock aesthetics. it's perfect.

while on the subject, dishonored 1's dlc > main game, and dishonored 2: death of the outsider > dishonored 2.

Hmm. For a second, I was going to say ME2's Shadow Broker was the best DLC expansion, but then I read you meant an expansion that was better. I'm not sure I've played any DLC where that was the case, though I also don't have a wide pool to pull from. Most games I play don't have substantial DLC add-ons.

I have heard that one Witcher 3 DLC was supposed to be incredible. The vampire one, I think?

The new Xenoverse 2 DLC is better than the main campaign at least. Alternate paths, unique interactions with your partners depending on the mission and it actually focuses on the 'what-ifs' that the main campaign was sorely lacking in. Hoping it's a good sign for things to come in Xenoverse 3.

they both are. Blood and Wine is the larger expansion that takes place in a new setting and often gets cited more than Hearts of Stone, but man, Hearts of Stone is so good. it's three B+ acts with the most compelling antagonist in the entire franchise needling you along the way.

you could reasonably walk away from The Witcher 3 thinking any of the 3 stories it tells are the best. it's that good.

Borderlands 2 has some fantastic DLC that rivals the main game. Tiny Tina's for instance.

I've heard Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon is better than Far Cry 3.

Left Behind is such a rare thing in video games. It emphasizes friendship and intimacy over violence in the AAA space. Queer stories in games have come a long way just due to the democratization of gamemaking tools and distribution methods but I still doubt any other AAA developer could deliver a story that powerful.

This snippet of someone's Left Behind review has always stuck with me because it rings so true:
http://tevisthompson.com/game-review-drabbles/
My favorite videogame moment so far this year focuses on the face of a teenage girl freckled, flushed, screen-lit. Shes playing a broken arcade machine with her eyes closed, listening to her best friend narrate a Street Fighter fantasy. Its an act of trust, of shared imagination. And in this moment, Ellie is seen.

Left Behind repurposes its AAA mechanics the shooting (of waterguns), the lobbing (of bricks at cars), the quick-time-event (her face) not for domination or survival but connection. It left me longing for entire games of altered verbs. Of fumbling connections. Games of seeing and being seen.
