...opinions with first amendment protection. the same as people (Hobby Lobby refusing to provide insurance coverage for abortions, the Colorado baker refusing to serve gay people), yet they're now getting their panties in a bunch about Delta dropping their partnership with the NRA and various Georgia republicans are threatening to retaliate by nixing a tax break on jet fuel?

Pick a lane, guys.

For the same reason most liberals claim to strongly support freedom of speech and oppose censorship, then start screaming the moment someone says something they don't like.

People are self-centered hypocrites regardless of which political party or ideology they claim to follow. Come to terms with this fact and life will suddenly start making a lot more sense to you.

Because it isn't a religious belief being protected, it's also company policy, not the giver of service.

I see. That makes sense.

Gonna disagree with you on that one.

It's worth remembering that "freedom of speech" doesn't mean that no one's going to tell you they don't like what you're saying. Most liberals - pretty much everyone, regardless of political ideology - does that. That said, I don't know of too many liberals - fringes excepted - that support calls for outright censorship. Not unless your definition of censorship is extremely broad.

Hobby Lobby was company policy too - didn't matter what any of their employees actually thought.

But more to the point - so what? Republicans have argued for years that companies should be able to hold "views" the same as people, and now they're trying to punish a company for doing just that?

This is without even touching the idea that the supposedly anti-interventionist, pro-"Invisible Hand" conservative party is now threatening a private company for abandoning a relationship with another private company for perfectly justifiable business reasons.

You say that as if conservatives don't do that as well. "We have to shut Anita up! She's trying to steal our games!"

Read the rest of the post before you say dumb shit. He clearly said both parties are equally guilty of hypocrisy, and he's right.

Learn to read yourself. They said both parties are full of hypocrites, but assigned "fake supporters of free speech," specifically, to liberals.

Actually, the context pretty clearly indicates that I was saying that BOTH parties (or more specifically, both extremists sides of the ideological divide, of which parties are only the most blatant manifestation) are "fake supporters of free speech".

Both parties want to limit free speech. They just disagree over which speech needs to be protected at all costs and which speech needs to be treated like doubleplusungood thoughtcrime. And people who are more than willing to point out the sins of "the other side" while desperately trying to ignore the sins of their own are more part of the problem than anyone they're attempting to condemn.

But that's basically human nature. We're basically a species of hypocrites trapped in self-denial because it's hard-wired into our brains. It's why every institution, ideology, or philosophical model we attempt to construct always seems to wind up broken. Because WE are the ultimate fuck-ups.

Republican politicians support unethical business decisions.

Someone does something ethical? Well lets do some criminal corruption on them.
