This is absolutely disgusting. I'm not sure if this would hold up in court (it doesn't seem like he'd have the authority to do this by EO to me), but even if it does quickly get overturned it would fuck up the markets.

Wait, I'm actually a little confused now.

I explained my view of how I understand "out of context" to mean... in this context. (Which is that it carries an implication more than the literal definition, which somewhat paradoxically leads to a situation in which the statement, "How can you know it's been taken out of context unless you know the context?" actually reads as sensible to me) but I also admitted that just might be a quirk of mine and maybe I'm the outlier.

But I'm not sure I follow you here. How can "what you draw from the comment" be out of context? I can understand it being flawed because the comment is out of context but... man words are hard =(

I am not making an assertion of the quote. I am saying I don't know the context to assess it.

Yep, all a preplanned stunt (also the 49ers were one of the teams, so it was all but guaranteed that there would be kneeling).

Furthermore, as has been repeatedly pointed out, if Pence was so concerned with disrespect for the troops (as he stated in his tweet) he wouldn't have gone to work for a guy who said he likes people who weren't captured.

Donald also ripped into a Gold Star family for pulling the Constitution out of their pocket and claimed time and time again he knew more than military generals. I'd be curious to hear how Pence feels about banning transgender soldiers too -- I think I know the answer.

I'm sure Pence cares for the military, but I'm not impressed when he works for who he works for and never disagrees when Donald has so often disrespected veterans. Like, what's the biggest spat Pence and Donald have even had? Not sure there's anything.

They'll continue to speak up.

It won't nearly be fast enough and we'll see what actions support their words, but Donald's list of close people he trusts continues to drop and he's made a lot of enemies on both sides of the aisle. Legislative failures make it easier to speak up against him too.

Don't expect a pure party-wide repudiation because even Watergate was still pretty partisan, but Corker's pretty much spoken on behalf of his party with that interview and he's well respected. Reporters will be asking questions, so it'll be interesting to see how the deflections, denials, and perhaps agreements will come in the short-term.
