Little bugger did NOT appreciate my effort or concern. Tried biting me a few times. Fortunately this one was on the small side and I could pick it up. Gloves are ruined, though. The mud that was caked on it reeks. Hope it doesn't try to cross the road again. It's a busy four-lane highway :/

I've done similar things before tc.. never on a busy road or stopping traffic but I have assisted animals out of the road before

I was at a red light, traffic was already stopped. Light turned green. The car ahead of me drove around an object in the road. Saw that it was a turtle. Put my hazards on and went and helped it off the road. Perfectly legal, and safe.

Provided he did it safely, he did do something pretty objectively good. Your basis for thinking he didn't seems to be that you think he didn't do so safely, which is pretty baseless. Rather than doubling down on your increasingly inaccurate assumptions and looking like a complete idiot, you should discuss the event with him to better understand, and apologize if it turns out your assumptions were wrong.

Stopping traffic to help an animal out is dangerous regardless of how safe you go about it.

TC said the light was red, so that was safe, but then it turned green. That's not safe anymore. Especially if the other vehicles behind him don't know what's going on and decide to go around all the stopped cars, hitting him in the process.

Sure, he's a swell guy for helping a defenseless animal but his safety and the safety of everyone around him is put in jeopardy by his actions. And that doesn't change no matter how safe he's trying to be.

The point is that when you're on the road you can take all the safety precautions you can think of and all it takes is one person not paying attention and all that safety goes out the window.

Are you really letting the law define your concept of responsible driving? Pay attention, and if somebody who isn't paying attention causes a problem, blame them. Don't blame people who did nothing that would have been dangerous if you'd just paid attention. That's just plain common sense.
