75. The Office

Seen: Pretty much all of it, except some of the last season

Favorite character: Pam

I watched this show initially with my mom. It's one of the only shows the two of us really watched together regularly, and I have a lot of positive memories of it. We stopped watching it somewhere around the 8th season, after Steve Carrell left the show, and everything really started to spiral downhill. Lately though, I've been rewatching it. Initially I started playing it on Netflix just to have something in the background, but found myself getting invested in it all over again. Jim and Pam are super likeable, as are many of the side characters like Kevin and Oscar. Here we have Rashida Jones before Parks and Rec, Ellie Kemper before Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Mindy Kaling before The Mindy Project, etc. It's almost like The Office was a long recruiting test for excellent tv comedy actors. However, I've never seen one actor ruin a show like Catherine Tate ruined The Office upon her entrance.

74. True Detective

Seen: Season 1

Favorite character: Marty Hart

So I'll admit, I never watched season 2. But, honestly, did ANYONE? It's pretty rare for a show to go from so acclaimed to so critically underwhelming as quickly as True Detective did. But putting the second season aside, True Detective shined because of quite a few things, including excellent mystery writing, solid cinematography, and most of all, the phenomenal chemistry between Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson. In only eight episodes, True Detective delivered everything I wanted from a detective thriller.

73. Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt

Seen: All 3 seasons

Favorite character: Kimmy

Hey go watch this show. Season 1 is okay. It's goofy and silly and Kemper is lovable, but other than that, it falls into some typical sitcom stereotypes. But GODDAMN does this show improve over the next two seasons. Ellie Kemper is a fantastic lead. Lillian is great. Tituss is... he has his moments. But really, the show just handles so many things so well. It goes into everything from cultural differences, sexism, racism, etc. etc. etc. all through the perspective of someone who has a solid reason to not understand the unfairness of the world, and it's absolutely fantastic. It's makes me so happy to watch, and I can't wait for the next season.

I love UKS, but Season 1 is the best. 30 Rock is clearly superior to the post-S1 stuff.

That said, three shows in a row I've seen! I think the worst of The Office came long before Nelly joined the cast, and I mainly enjoyed her. Some of the stuff from S4-7 was atrocious.

72. Courage the Cowardly Dog

Seen: A ton of it

Favorite character: Courage's computer

How did this show ever actually get made? It seems hard to call this a "kids show" given how downright horrifying it is. Take the "villain of the week" concept from dozens of other shows, and then go all in on the creepy factor. But as much as I hated it at times, I ultimately loved. I used to prank my sister by playing IT'S A GERBIL'S WORLD when she was trying to go to bed (yes, I was shit). I still frequently quote the "More cheese! Less macaroni!" segment, all but weekly. So many of its characters were simply one-offs but they were still instantly memorable (with some of the shows best guest characters being Katz, Le Quack, King Ramses, and Basil.

71. Silicon Valley

Seen: Wait, did I see season 4? I definitely saw the first 3... huh...

Favorite character: Jared

Is this show popular? It seems like it is, but I never see anyone talk about it. It's weird how they manage to make a comedy about smart people programming that is simultaneously both hilarious and compelling. Every character seems to stand out and hold their own, and while you have to respect their intelligence, they are also a huge disaster. Really there's just a big group of solid comedians being consistently awkward and funny. It's entertaining when things work out for them, because they deserve it. It's funny when they don't, because they still kind of deserve it.

70. iZombie

Seen: Almost finished season 2

Favorite character: Blaine

It took me a bit to really get into this show, but it's quickly grown on me. Rose McIver's protagonist is great; seeing her try to take on so many vastly different personalities is a big part of what makes the show so entertaining (and somehow everyone around her that doesn't know she's a zombie is somehow oblivious to the fact that her entire personality changes drastically (Clive has to be the DUMBEST detective ever. And hell! He believes she's a psychic! Would it be that much of a stretch for her to just be like "hey, solving a case with super powers makes me take on the victim's personality" rather than covering that shit up?). The best thing here though is David Anders. He's such an underutilized actor, but he's great here, he's great in Once Upon a Time. Really he just needs to be in more things.

Courage wasn't too scary most of the time, but there are some definite exceptions like Ramses and the first Tarantella appearance. But overall a fantastic show, and a top 10 Western cartoon for me. The writing was just on point, and the characters were all really memorable. Possibly my favorite episode was "The Tower of Dr. Zalost" which was an emotional roller-coaster with one of the few truly sympathetic villains on the show. It didn't hurt that they went all out on the music for that one to match it.

Favorite character: Snorlax

Like Spongebob and The Simpsons, this is one of the shows that pretty much everyone here has probably seen. At least the beginning of it. Everyone knows all about Ash being a jackass and getting electrocuted and stealing Misty's bike and getting fucked up by a whole bunch of spearows. Then from there we get a long, thrilling adventure full of Ash being, just SO dumb. Like the DUMBEST. And all of it is just so distinct in my mind despite not watching the show in so long. I remember loving the giant Gengar v. giant Alakazam fight. I remember crying as a kid when Ash tried to give away Pikachu (what the fuck is the deal with Ash ditching all his Pokemon, btw?)

It really did take a while for this show to feel find its footing, but it's still a bunch of fun. But as ridiculous as it is, it's capable of getting really, really deep, and that's where the show shines. I think the show's real potential is shown best from I Remember You, when we learn bits and pieces of the past. I've been meaning to watch more of the show honestly, as I never really watched the progression like I feel like I should have. Seen: First season, some of the 2nd

Favorite character: Black Dynamite

If you haven't seen the original movie, definitely check it out. It's a spot-on parody of blaxploitation films, and it's absolutely fucking hilarious the whole way through. The animated Adult Swim take on it is equally so. It's got references to the original film, but more importantly manages to really capture the feeling of the show, from the ridiculous overemphasis on cultural and racial differences to the excellent pop culture references. The animation is great, with the fight scenes being some of the best American animation has to offer. It's a combination of humor and action that American tv really needs more of. But first, watch the movie!

Favorite character: Dr. Brule, ya dingus

Now I'm SURE a lot of you either 1. have never heard of this or 2. fucking HATE this show. And believe me, I get it. It's hard to argue against it being objectively bad. But goddamn do I love it. I'm a huge fan of John C. Reilly in anything he does, whether it's goofy comedy like Talladega Nights or more serious roles like Magnolia. And here, he's at the goofiest he's ever been, and it's wonderful. It takes what's funny about Tim and Eric, but tones it down and gives it a little more structure, not to mention that Reilly is just a better lead than Tim & Eric. My girlfriend absolutely hates how much I like this show, and somehow that makes it even better.

Seen: All of it

Favorite character: Escobar

Is this show popular? I mean, it had 6 seasons, -it must've been at least a little. I watched this the whole way through with my girlfriend. We were looking for a show to binge after finishing [redacted], and happened to stumble upon this on Netflix. After a few episodes, we were both pretty solidly hooked. It helped that Season 1 had the best villain of the series, Escobar, who was basically Far Cry 3's Vaas years earlier. One of the best things about the show were the ridiculous characters; the show was a drama that didn't really take itself seriously, revolving around plastic surgeons who manage to get involved with druglords, serial killers, sociopaths, etc. One of the biggest jokes of the series was Matt, who goes from a threesome-having teen to a weird motherly/sex relationship with Ava to a Neo-Nazi to a scientoligist to a porn star drug addict to literally a bank-robbing mime. It's a hell of a ride. Also the ENTIRE way through the show I couldn't help but picture Christian Troy as Dr. Doom and that made it so much better.

Favorite character: Sun

So I'm going to try and restrain myself from talking about how hot Bae Doona is (like, SO fucking hot btw). This show is honestly just really damn impressive, and moreso the more I think of it. It spans the entire world, and that's pretty obvious from the filming. It attempts (and mostly succeeds at) capturing different lives and environments from everywhere, and experimenting with how they might react with each other and bring their own experiences into the lives of people much different than them. It's a massive undertaking, and it's done beautifully. The writing isn't always perfect, but the extraordinary casting and directing more than makes up for it. Hell, half the show is just some of the most incredible montages ever, where we get the group all singing together, all jumping in to help each other, or even having an orgy between every main cast member that literally spans the entire world in what is most likely the sexiest scene ever recoreded for television. I'm incredibly disappointed to not be getting a third season, but they DID confirm a big series finale post-cancellation, so I'm still hyped!
