Board 8 > I'm considering buying a PS4 just for P5, please help

Legit aside from that, the only thing I know offhand I'd do with it is play Rocket League with some friends

But just glancing through the top ~200 PS4 games on metacritic, nothing actually really interests me at a glance. And my big problems are that I'm basically incompatible with shooters as a genre and I can't really ass myself to sit in front of a TV for extended periods anymore unless it's something I'm super interested in

Is this actually worth the ~300 bucks?

(I've also been told by somebody with a JP copy of P5 that PS3 load times are horrendous and that if I was going to buy a console just for the game, paying extra for ps4 is worth)

I still generally enjoy handheld games, since they don't dictate that I sit in one place for hours at a time to play them

I'm not sure I can justify it then. In this day and age, not much is exclusive to console in general, especially not on PS4. It works as an alternative marketplace, you get PS+ "rentals", and there's cross-buy with Vita. Those are the main benefits.

I bought a PS4 for Uncharted 4 + Persona 5. I don't regret Uncharted 4, which is part shooter but still enjoyable for someone like me who typically hates shooters.

Take Your Heart Out and buy a PS4 for those two games. You *might* be able to pre-order the special edition still, but it's pretty late...

Maybe if you wait long enough they'll port it to the Switch as an updated handheld version like P3P or P4G. Or Vita I guess I dunno.

Ive been thinking about this too. If the PS4 had a 4K player in it I'd probably do it because im already considering getting an xbox1s just for that reason.

I bought one for Persona 5 and since then I've gotten quite a few games. Overwatch alone I have put 700 hours into and I typically don't care about shooters. Witcher 3 has also been great and if you never got a PS3 there are tons of remasters of great games. They also ported Danganronpa 1-2 on it. If money isn't an issue I say go for it. You might find other stuff to enjoy eventually or even make time for other games

I'd get one just to sink endless hours into PS3 games on the subscription thingy

P5 isn't worth a PS4 for two reasons:
1) it's basically a PS3 game
2) i'd fully expect an updated version of the game within a year

now the 2nd is probably a case where it's PS4 exclusive but by then you'd have other options and will have gone through the holiday season, where you can expect some steep discounts + bundled games.


also i assume you've got a PC because Nier Automata exists.

I literally just got back from the store to buy a PS4, entirely for Persona 5. (and also to preorder the game itself)

edit: Though to be fair actually there's a good chance Legend of Heroes games in the future get released on the PS4, so I guess there's that also for me. (All that did however was cause me to buy a PS4 rather than a PS3 to do this)

Just get a PS3. There is a decent library of exclusives on the PS4 now beyond just shooters, but it's not what you're after, so you may as well just go for the cheaper option.

Also PT is never coming back and wasn't even really a video game to begin with.

I can't help you because I bought a PS4 on Black Friday last year knowing that the only game I really wanted to play was P5. Of course, I found other games I was interested in, like Steins;Gate 0, Disgaea 5, Tales of Zestiria+Berseria, Danganronpa v3, and the KH 1.5+2.5 collection. I don't think it's a big deal to just buy it and play some other games too, even if you don't think you're interested in anything else.
