I bought it years ago, but I only got about four hours in because I found the battle system to be really boring. It's among the games on my backlog that I plan to finish over winter break, but I'm considering just removing it entirely and forgetting about it.

If you don't enjoy the battle system, you probably won't like the rest of the game. I think it gets better once you can customize a bit more, but the game is about the battle system. It's very gameplay-heavy.
I still pick up the game and play every once in a while, as it has probably one of the best endgames. There is a TON of extra stuff to do.

My Japanese alter-ego. Hey all this is Bartz btw.
The battle system is probably the best part of the game (well, that and the Hunts), so if you're not enjoying it then it's probably not for you. I'd say stick it out a bit longer, say to the point when you have a decent amount of customizable gambits available, and if you still aren't liking it just put it away.
it is pretty much a string of battles one after another, and while the battle system does open up as you go, it isn't like the difference between "this does not interest me" and "this is lots of fun", so I would say maybe just skip it.

From: Xuxon | #008 are you at archadia yet? or close? if you are, i'd say it's definitely worth finishing. if not, there's a lot of boring crap between getting 6 party members and then, which if you don't like the gameplay and hunts are probably not worth doing.
I know you edited this, but the stretch you are talking about is one of my favorite in the game. Not a big fan of Archadia-Giruvegan
