Not sure if mod support can drastically change it or not, but I wouldnt be surprised if 90% of people drop it before completing the main story. I doubt most of those players even engage with the mods. Alot probably won't understand what mods do for the game. Also, be warned that once you get above 20 or so Settlements an attack on one can trigger a chain of attacks to them all.
