To me it sets a bad precedent. Not only is it a vague reason to ban something but it feels like it was proposed by people that don't even understand the apeal of social media. Having people like that make decisions that could affect the lives of millions is not a good feeling.

They are not banning it because of any social media features. Theyre banning it because the autocratic country that controls it is by far the single biggest source of online piracy and theft of trade secrets.

And clueless people just wander around with it on them 24 hours a day.

This bill specifically includes Ukraine funding, which is why it passed in the first place. Republicans purposely attached the Tiktok shit to a bill that included Ukraine funding. I have no comment on how much/how helpful/whatever the funding is, but the entire point is that this bill does actually include funding now. That's how the Tiktok shit got passed in the first place.

That's what happened a decade ago when Republicans purposely inserted an amendment restricting NASA from cooperating with China's space agency when it comes to space exploration and the ISS, even banning Chinese citizens from NASA buildings and events. How did the Chinese respond? By embarking on their own space program and building their own space station.

It's being used to educate people on... well I suppose it doesn't matter because the US government doesn't want educated people in general.
