My sample number isn't high because I don't personally know many conservatives, but the people I do know aren't extreme. They wouldn't support pregnant women being turned away from care or not being able to receive abortions when medically necessary.

Im at the point where I genuinely thought Well, republicans arent like the mainstream politicians. The average voter isnt crazy.

But if you do vote republican youre cosigning this stuff. You can say democrats are bad. But I feel the bad things about republicans are so dramatically worse, that I can wrap my head around how you still go red.

My only theories are:

1) Republican voters dont care about things not affecting them. Or better, things they think dont affect them.

2) They are evil.

3) They arent aware of the bad things. They tune in zero news and just vote red on election day.

So either selfishness, maliciousness, or ignorance. None of the three are good lol.

Someone said earlier that democrats should be putting this shit on blast. I agree 100%. Make it abundantly clear who is doing what. These are the people upset Obama wears a beige suit. Like come the fuck on.

For the sake of friendship, it's best not to go there with some people.

Personally I can't be friends with conservatives. Not when I know they're complicit in the overturning of domestic rights. I'll be cordial and professional, but I will never ever ask a Trump supporter to come to lunch with me.

Average republican voters look exclusively at 'news' dedicated to them. You probably won't see Fox talk about these instances, but boy can you expect them to fear monger with "late term abortion", painting the narrative that women are just getting pregnant for fun and then just killing the baby 8 1/2 months in.

Because this is totally a thing that happens, in the fictional news of what they're fed.

Not that it removes any guilt or responsibility because "I didn't know better!" doesn't undo human rights being taken away.

Methinks that these Senate hearings should really have a Bible on stand-by to show the idiots in power that even in the holy book the life of the mother outweighs the life of the child.

We're never going to get lie detectors strapped onto them, but I think this would be an acceptable countermeasure.

They'd have to read it for that to work.

For instance, in Ohio republicans helped pass abortion rights.

Before we all rush to praise Ohio Republicans:

Ohio voters overwhelmingly approved a constitutional amendment on 7 November, guaranteeing its citizens the right to abortion access, but a group of rightwing Republican lawmakers is already trying to reverse that result.
The referendum, which Ohioans passed by 57% of votes, established a constitutional right to an abortion, overriding laws passed by the Republican-dominated legislature to dramatically restrict access. In response, 27 GOP members of the Ohio general assembly signed a statement the next day arguing the abortion rights proposal failed to mention a single, specific law, and vowing to do everything in [their] power to prevent the restrictive abortion laws on the books in Ohio from being challenged.

So Republicans passed laws restricting abortion access.

When the people voted for abortion to be legal, they vowed to fight it.

But now you say they don't support the laws they passed and swore to preserve against the will of the voters.

And your takeaway is 'Republicans helped pass abortion rights'.

Truly, truly exceptional stuff.

OH Republicans are for a federal ban on abortions as well. Holstering the GOP and denying reality doesn't make the crap you're claiming true.

If they actually cared about fixing their party, those Republican voters could stay home, vote third-party, or vote for nonsense write-in "candidates" like Mickey Mouse instead of voting for Republicans.

But, for the most part, they generally don't. They will still vote Republican. Because at the end of the day, even as their own elected representatives gleefully harm and even kill them with their policies, they still give their voters the red meat they wanted: a false promise of "supremacy" over other people, explicit permission to hate the people they view as "lesser", to view those people as not even human, and to exterminate those "non-humans". And that will keep their voters coming to the polls to vote R, even when they've got one-and-a-half feet in the grave.
