Yeah I like them. I don't really like wasting time eating so smoothies are a good way to get in a bunch of stuff at once. I use one of these because a blender is a bitch to clean.

I love them but the ingredients for me are just banana, strawberries, ice-cream and milk. Not terrible but I wouldn't call it particularly healthy

I stack a a bunch of spinach with 1 bananna and 2 strawberries with Greek Yogurt for Protein.

Fruit is plenty healthy. It does have sugars, but everything in moderation. If you know how to portion your food properly fruit has many benefits.
It also have vitamins and can have antioxidants.
Greek yogurt is good for you too. Very high in protein and spinach is great for you.

No. I'm going to make something else if I'm going to make it myself, and if I'm buying it from the store I don't want to have to constantly check that it's not just apple juice.

I'm interested in them for this reason as well. For now, they definitely make lunch at work stress free. No going to a fast food or spending a bunch of time preparing food for work. Just go idle and drink healthy shit is ideal as hell for me. But yes after workout this seems like a super healthy option.

Honestly, it's only the ice cream that makes your smoothie unhealthy. The banana is more than enough to sweeten the smoothie. Try without the ice cream and you'll most likely still enjoy it - and it'll actually be healthy.

I used to drink smoothies as a lunch replacement too. I never put veggies or yogurt in them though. I'd do a bit of juice, strawberries, bananas and sometimes blueberries. The blueberries though, tend to give the smoothie a very gritty consistency. Wasn't a fan of that, but I know they're good for you.

I think the idea of adding protein to it is a good one too. Should make it a bit more filling. With just fruit, I was pretty damn hungry by dinner time

yeah, i do bananas + strawberries, carrots, spinach, yogurt, protein powder, and also cacao powder

cacao is really good and imo a better energy source than caffeine (cacao has theobromine) but it makes the smoothie kinda fizzy

I'll go through smoothie phases every couple months. My go to smoothie is banana, organic peanut butter, spinach, and some oat milk. Sub pb with strawberries if we have some in the fridge that need to be eaten.

Pretty good, yeah.

Some people pack it with fruit and just because it's natural sugar doesn't mean it isn't still sugar lol you can definitely overdo it with fruit.

What you really want is to add fiber. More fiber = less hungry because it's stuck in the stomach longer.

Spinach is one of the better sources of fiber that's commonly used in smoothies.

Get yourself an immersion blender because you can basically just rinse those off under the faucet and be done with it. A regular blender is too much work unless you're making a lot. Like for a party or something.

Smoothies are less healthy than simply eating the foods unblended. Obviously getting a more complete nutrient profile will have positive results, but the more processing done to your food, the less overall healthy it is. The more processed your food is, the less your body has to work to digest it, which means the sugars (which all foods eventually break down into) more rapidly pass into your blood. Highly processed foods greatly contribute to diabetes because (i think) they result in much higher amounts of sugar dumping into your bloodstream at once.

This is not a universally true statement. It's also not really a scale from 1-100 either. Some kinds of processing can reduce some nutrients while increasing others. I've also heard that blending bananas with blueberries destroys the nutrients in blueberries...? Therefore making a blueberry banana smoothie not the ideal combo. I think that's what it was anyway.

You're probably right, I'm just used to thinking in min-max mindset for stuff like this because internet groups for bodybuilding/weightlifting have an unhealthy fixation on optimal training and nutrition.

Basically all the food you're eating is processed in some way unless you're buying it straight from a farm or a farmers market that sources only local farms.

It's less important to be concerned about whether something is processed or not and more important to be concerned about what kind of processing has been done.

And even that can change depending on personal situation. Someone with diabetes might want to eat some beef jerky (with no sugars added). Someone with high blood pressure problems might not be able to eat that because too much sodium.

The only nutrition advice you really need is go to the doctor for a physical and get blood/urine tests done and fix any problems identified in your diet.

Another life hack I learned is just getting a French fry cutter, cut whole potatoes into fries in one go, season them then bake them. Boom. French fries with way less calories and without the grease. Hell you can do 3 potatoes, which is filling on its own, and probably only have it be about 600 calories. You just have to drain the starch out the potatoes after cutting them to make them crispy when they bake.

To add to this if your using ice cream to make it creamy then you can just use yogurt too.

If you make the smoothie right it's healthy.

First off, shit like Jamba is out. They literally have sherbert in their smoothies.

I make my own, and I only put fresh or frozen fruit and fresh squeezed fruit juice. Fresh squeezed is the key. Because if it's fresh the sugars are the natural fruit sugars. Once it's pasteurized it cooks all the nutrients out of it and it leaves all the bad sugar.
