Journalists who sell the lie that there are two healthy sides of a reasonable national debate are part of the problem. Overwhelmingly, elected GOP officials pursue total abortion bans that put women's lives in danger.

Democrats: Abortion is healthcare and we need to protect a womans right to body autonomy.

Republicans: We will allow states to execute women who get an abortion.

NY Times: I literally cannot tell you two apart.

I would need to read the article to see what their issue is with Biden's abortion message and how they think it doesn't line up with their constituents.

What is their reasoning for that?

After actually reading the article: the author is talking about how Biden has been wishy-washy on his full commitment to abortion leading up to the overturning of Roe v Wade, and how that might leave some of his constituents feeling like he's not 100% behind full access to abortion.

It's definitely a dumb way to word the headline. They're basically saying that some Biden supporters might feel like he hasn't gone far enough in his defense of abortion. And while somewhat true in the past, it's nitpicking at best. He's certainly spent the last couple decades as very vocal in how important Roe v Wade is.

I don't get why an article seems to say "donald trump sucks on abortion, oh and Biden isn't perfect either" is some kind of bad thing?

Is someone not allowed to point out the faults of the two people in a political race? You're allowed to criticize both without it being some fence sitter position.

No but you see there's another side that wants to kill women. So we need to act like that's some kind of viable opinion to have. And because people have that opinion, then 'let that decision to come down to the woman and her doctor' cannot be a perfect response.

Or some dumb shit like that Idfk these people are insane.

In making it a contest of personalities and about unknowable private feelings, the article not just omits but distracts from what each candidate and their parties would do (and has done) with power.

When abortion rights are wildly popular with the voting public, this sort of coverage muddies the waters such that Biden's stance is made weaker and Trump's stronger.

Something tells me the NYT's position is not that Biden is too conservative on abortion.

This is still Both Sides bullshit when you frame the GOP as having an equally valid and "imperfect" stance. This is the supposed Far-Left media the GOP cries about. One where the party that wants to execute raped children for getting abortions is described as "not perfect"

Because in a world where one side wants to overthrow the duly elected government, ban abortion completely and strip every other right they can find in bad faith, acting like the
parties are equivalent is a dishonest position. When 70 percent of GOP voters believe the obvious lie that the 2020 election was a fraud, the media reporting on the policy of both sides like everything is normal is a dishonest position.

You are living in a world where the differences between the parties are policy driven. The GOP has intentionally destroyed that world. Now the only difference that matters is that one side wants to break the government and seize power by any means necessary, and the other actually has policies and wants to govern.

Wake up.

They do it all the time. The "both sides" makes Trump seem less radical.

Its dishonest. Its this bullshit "neutrality" on objective issues. The GOP position on abortion is objectively wrong. Morally and practically. And the public is overwhelmingly closer to dems then the GOP on Abortion.

The media has a moral, objective and self preserving duty to be opposed to Trump. They cannot keep pretending he is legitimate in any way.

That makes sense, and (i'm assuming) you're right, because I can't actually read the full article but it probably doesn't get into a whole lot of nuance about what the Ds and Rs have done for abortions rights in this country and how one of the two people is better for abortion rights. And maybe I picked a bad topic (abortion) to try to have this discussion about media coverage of two people in a two party political system especially in today's political climate.

I dunno... I'm still kind of processing the whole thought pattern.

ETA: And to be clear I'm not apologizing for Trump or what he's done to this country. He's a gigantic piece of shit. I think Biden is 1000 times better than Trump.

For access. If they tell Republicans theyre wrong, they won't give them interviews.

So no matter how extreme they get, the media will never call them out. Like when trump said members of the media should be executed or incited his followers to assault or attempt to murder them.
