The MCU has been drastically losing its grip for years now thanks to the flood of half-baked projects.

Im feeling confident that a more coherent universe starting fresh with DC is just the ticket. Gunn worked for the MCU and gave us a lot of fan favorite movies. Im pretty excited about it, tbh.

Probably more likely that both franchises are going to stumble until a good X-Men or Batman (main universe) movie comes out.

Nah, theres no way it ever resurges. Itll definitely make money, but its not ever going to compete on the same level.

DC as evident by Joker, Batman, and other non canon series being mega hits, should just focus on that, instead of some shared universe bullshit.

MCU caught lightning in a bottle. Nobody else has been able to replicate that success and they should honestly stop trying.

At this point, it's silly to compare the two.

The GOTG trilogy as been leaps and bounds of the reguar MCU fare in terms of actual characterization and heart so I'm looking forward to it

I wouldn't say they should stop trying in general but they should stop trying specifically to replicate that. Make some Superman movies, make some Batman ones. Then maybe do a crossover. Basically do it like they do the comics.

I agree. If the same love and treatment of their animated films went into their live action films, they'd be so much better.

I mention this before, but I said that the only for the MCU to die off is if they release mediocre movies back to back consistently like the original DCEU. At least Marvel/Disney is slowing down their output on their movies for quality control. I'm looking forward to James Gunn's DCU though.

That depends entirely on a lot of different variables than just Gunn being at the helm. The MCU itself was, as described above, lightning in a bottle that nobody has yet managed to replicate, and even the MCU itself is stumbling lately (and no, chuds, it's not because of "wokeness" or "DEI" or whatever other bigoted bullshit the likes of Jordan Peterson are talking about).

Chief among those variables is whether David Zaslav and the other high-level WB Discovery execs know to keep out of the kitchen while Gunn is trying to cook, and I can confidently tell you that no, they very much do not.

I don't think either Marvel or DC will top what was peak MCU.

Zero. Not even suicide squad.

First movie is officially Superman.

The main issue is how many potentially great storys and characters Zack and his DCUE completely wasted.

The Fladh for example wasted his best story just for an excuse to reboot the franchise. Which the flash has been overused for far to often now that I dont think they know what else to even do with him.

All I want is another DC/Nolan collaboration

honestly it'll depend a ton on the directors. even if gunn is literally penning everything himself, it's whether or not he can actually helm all the movies or give them out to directors who will comply. if he's not writing everything, then it'll also weigh heavily on the shoulders of the writers.

phase 4 and 5 of the mcu have been pretty weak and i think it's mainly because of the writing, and the directors in charge. a producer alone can't do it all.

DC has a reputation for mostly bombs so far though, and I wonder if the Marvel fatigue will just carry over to general super hero universe fatigue. I'd prefer just a return to stand alone stuff.

DC would have to go on like a 10 year success run while MCU fucked off to JUST break even in terms of quality at this point.

So spoilers, it won't happen.

He'll certainly make the DCU better than it was.

How to do this right is. Do the Trinity. Don't reinvent the wheel. No emo Superman. Batman keep grounded, introduce his Rogues Gallery. Do not kill off villians. WW while the old versions were fine. Recast and Reboot. Then start 2nd tier characters. 5th movie in do a JL

Gunn is just one man, no matter how talented he is, he can't do it all without burning out very quickly.

What DC needs/needed was their own Kevin Feige.

Nah, Gunn is not a good choice to run a DCU. But I don't think the MCU is in good shape either.

Youre being dramatic. Hes just a major step up from crap films like Aquaman and Wonder Woman. Ive wanted to see a good DC universe for a while, and Gunns as good as they can get for their budget.

He should bring back the Legends of Tomorrow as part of the DCU

Yeah, Sean and his group were very fun. I wasn't in his friend group, but we were at plenty of parties together and I designed a couple of shows he was in.

Judy Greer (she was Judy Evans at the time) was a year behind me. My only real interaction with her was that she was on a backstage crew that I was crew chief for. You would not have picked her out as being the one to have a long hollywood career.

DC used to be way better than Marvel.

Then, for some reason, they decided if they just make everything DARK EDGY GRIM ANGSTY GRITTY ETC it didn't have to actually be good anymore.

And they decided the property--THE property--to herald in this new age of middle school goth was, of ALLLLLLLL the damn things they could have picked, Mr. Truth, Justice and Exterior Underpants himself, Superman.

You're welcome to your opinion but, apart from review bombing dragging down the total, they both have average to good reviews. And that's still nothing to say of everything else Marvel puts up consistency posting close to a billion.

It isnt review bombing if its the truth. The Marvels was a fucking mess. So was Quantumania. Secret Invasion was pretty universally hated by most MCU fans. Ms Marvel was good for about two episodes. No one even talks about the Echo show because no one wanted it. Being a Marvel Yes-Man is a silly look. Thor Love and Thunder and Wakanda Forever also didnt gross $1billion. Neither did Quantumania or The Marvels. The Marvels barely made $200mil and Quantumania made the upper of $400mil.

I just want a good Green Lantern movie, and a Superman movie where he faces Brainiac. Is that asking for too much?
