Also, just to spell it out: I know you're not specialkid, but you might as well be. That's the entire point. You take up for the worst people, willingly, all because "I must fight the majority!" That's dumb.

Okay, thank you. It might have seemed obviously tongue in cheek to you but I really thought the accusations I was an alt were actual accusations.

I can see how it looks to you, but to me you're simplifying the issue. I have a personal hatred of bullying, have devoted my whole life to stopping it, and when I see a certain level of vitriol my brain jumps to a certain place

Honestly, if CE became a more right wing leaning board and dogpiling situations were inverse, I'd probably be in your good books because you'd see me defending atheists from Christians and anti gun people from gun owners

I like defending people when it's 10 on 1. Deal with it

The problem with a devil's advocate is that he advocates for the devil.

Yes. This problem extends beyond CE, my friends have told me IRL when people don't know me that well yet they can get the wrong idea about me. I will try to be sincere (or whatever the correct word is, I felt sincere in my posts while making them) moving forward

This is the problem. You call it bullying, when it isn't.

The last topic we argued in, you were literally defending somebody who said diversity in media is bad, and you said the same thing, there. "Well, everybody was dogpiling, so I defended him."

Do you know WHY everybody was dogpiling them? Because they were spouting alt right rhetoric and saying diversity was bad! People getting on their case weren't bullying them, they were rightfully calling them out for a terrible argument, yet you defended them, anyway.

Like DnD said above: Playing devil's advocate means you're advocating for the devil. There's a time and place, and, well... 99% of the time, when you do it, it's not the time or the place. You're just randomly defending somebody with horrible opinions. And when you do it as much as you do, it makes it seem like you just literally hold those thoughts and viewpoints, too.

That's such a simplification of his post. He raised a point in a "what do we think of this" type way, maybe his language and tone leaned 55-45 to the right wing perspective or whatever

Sometimes IRL I do that to get a more impassioned answer from my friends and I thought I saw that in his post

But I don't think it ever warrants personal attacks.

I'm just gonna say this: If you find yourself defending a user that uses "woke" unironically, for example, you may want to reflect on why people are getting on their case, and why it might not be a good idea to jump to their defense. Often, there's a reason why certain users here are treated how they're treated.

I don't recall him using that term or any dumb buzzwords in that post. I had a strong impression he just wanted to generate discussion, not necessarily agreement, but not a vicious argument

Yes literally how I felt, thank you. After reading some of tc defenses he just wanted to make an eye catching topic title and opening post and it backfired from the little way he was sounding so sure and not being gentle with wording

The 9-1-1 topic, obviously, but I know nothing about the context. I'm talking much more generally about angry mobs of terminally online people demanding that authors stop "queer baiting" by not explicitly stating a character's identities, and even more specifically about that demand actual human beings announce their identities because they're otherwise "appropriating" an identity that they may be in proximity to. If we want to treat not being straight or cis like the unexceptional things that they are, we should not have the expectation that they MUST be announced.
