I get the arguments against the first Sonic game, but I can't not put it on my Rushmore. Was 2 a better and more influential game? Sure, but I still think there's enough to the first game for its legacy to remain.

It was a really big part of the console war of the time and emblematic of the difference in curation between the two platforms. Between that and its being one of the fighting games of the '90s, I think it's a good shout. If it were a 1990s Sega Mount Rushmore I'd drop it for an in-house title but I think its legacy is wrapped up in the console in a more enduring way than a lot of true exclusives.
