Yea I happened to catch this I stepped outside to see some weather on thd tele in the living room and then BAM this story. It is a current event but why would ya want to make a topic about this. Makes me continue to lose belief in humanity.

The shooting came as Indianapolis continues to grapple with a steady rise in gun violence. A report by the Indianapolis Star last year found that homicides in the city, which were largely committed using firearms, had increased by 85% over the previous decade and a half.

PS - This is the second mall mass shooting in Indianapolis in the past two years.

How many kids need to have their lives changed by guns? Are we nearing that limit? Will we ever hit that limit?

I think in 2020 and 2021, the biggest killer of teens was guns.

Of course all the gun lovers say "gang Violence" and Suicide.

If your 16 year old kid was shoot and killed, WHY does it matter how.

One small comfort is that all the victims appear to have survived. Of course, physical injury isn't the only thing these people are dealing with.

..that's actually amazing how much safer driving seems to have gotten.

Bet guns are used much more to be a badass than 'self defense'.

The sharp rise in both drug overdose and gun deaths is largely due to suicide and that horribly sharp rise should be concerning.

Notice how its only cause of death, my cousin left notes for family and it was listed and ruled as overdose. Same with a friend that we actually talked into counseling because we were so worried about him, he went, but his roommate (another friend) found him dead on the bathroom floor.

Another overdose of course.

Its something that is a problem in both those categories and needs to be tracked more closely.

Its fucking depressing reading, but I suggest looking up the problems with tracking that data and the way its listed.

Drugs have just been steadily legalised recently so I wonder if that's connected too.

Kinda messed up when I hear 7 people were shot outside a mall and my gut reaction is "there are still malls?"

I know I'm going to be in the unpopular majority here...but banning guns isn't going to fix anything and isn't the answer. I'm one of many law-abiding, gun owning citizens and it isn't a gun problem, its a mental health and people problem. Taking away guns wont fix anything, people will still get access to them through back-channel and illegal ways and crimes involving firearms will still be commited. All it will do is make it harder for law-abiding citizens to acquire them.

Who do people keep saying this as if every Tom, Dick, and Harry has a black market connection? If the purchase of guns was restricted and gun show loopholes closed, how many of this country's school shooters do you really think would have been able to buy a gun if they didn't do so legally?

And if that doesn't convince you, read up on Tommy gun usage by organized crime. Note how prevalent it was before they were banned vs after.

Because once you ban something completely and make legal sale not an option, multiple channels open up to coincide with market demand? Its not rocket science...

Unfortunately even if we have heavy gun regulation it wouldn't change much violence because humans, by their very nature are a violent species. All it'd do is increase the chance of us stopping someone from mass killing, however. It won't stop human instinct but it will decrease more deaths.

I used to live in Indianapolis. Beautiful city, but yeah I never exactly felt safe there. Pretty sure there was a shooting at the Castleton mall last year that was close by to where I stayed.

I never even heard about it until now. I'm typically plugged into what's going on so it's crazy I am just now hearing about it

Guns break. Guns used in crimes have to be disposed of. And that's the two easiest ones I can think of.

And if new guns aren't being made, because they're banned and there's no market for them anymore, supply for guns used in crimes will eventually reach zero.

Might take a long time, but a ban on guns would halt any new influx of weapons into legal and illegal markets, and that would be a huge initial reduction in gun violence and gun crime numbers.

Notice how there are no more Pintos? Because they stopped making them, and the rest eventually broke down? The same can happen with guns.

A market cannot exist, regardless of demand, if there is no supply to feed the market.

Clearly what we're doing (basically nothing) isn't the answer. We've never tried banning guns--it might be the answer. Might at the very least make a notable improvement. We don't know since we've never even tried it. Why not try it for a couple of years, just to see the impact. If it really doesn't seem to make a difference, then fuck it. Bring the guns back.

British dude here who is happy about no guns very much. They have to get real close to stab with a weapon in the uk and most people greatly prefer the gun as choice of weapon cos of how easy, less personal close and more sudden the attack is

What they're actually doing is making sure that absolutely nothing gets done. Ironically, this has taken quite a bit of time, effort, resources, and preparation work on the Republicans' part.
