There were several dorms and even the cheaper mediocre one had pretty good grub.

I recall it being pretty mediocre, and my standards weren't exactly high at that age.

The only thing my on-campus meal plan had that I liked was the omelet bar during breakfast. Plus theyd scramble you some eggs right there on the spot instead of you having to take the institutional ones from the tray.

prob easily most graduating high schoolers don't got this right recently. Go to a school where they would have dorm food....community college more?

I lived on campus my first two years of college. You weren't allowed to move out until your junior year unless you had a metro address before you enrolled.

I thought the food was pretty good. I ate way healthier and consistently when I had meal plan and lived on campus. My diet and eating habits went belly up and basically became a mix of Wendy's, pizza, and beer once I moved off campus.

This was 20 years ago too. It wasn't anything fancy, but I thought it was more than acceptable. You could always at least count on the hamburgers and fries or the fresh sandwich station.

***

Edit, the food varied depending on the caf you hit. It was all passable but the one near my dorm was brand new. It had the best food.

***
Our cafs had a mix of permanent staff and students working it.

No they werent students. I guess you could say they were older women. They were not too different from the kitchen staff in a typical hotel. Some of them probably had hotel experience too since Orlando has so many.

It was a state university with around 16,000 students. The food just Sodexo. Nothing fancy.

Like the caf I mainly went to had an "entree" bar. It had a hamburgers/fries/hotdogs sort of station, a fresh made to order sandwich spot, and a salad bar. It had an all you could eat soft serve machine and cereal bar too.

Lunch and dinner just changed like the entrees rest was the same. They had "late night" where the caf was open until around 10pm. They would serve leftovers. Came with your meal plan.

It was fine. Nothing remarkable but far from unacceptable.

it was pretty good. the meal plan food was basically a huge cafeteria that was all buffet style and you could eat as much as you wanted before leaving, but you could only go into the cafeteria three times each day (someone would scan your card when you go in)

there was also a food court with mini versions of actual restaurants (panda express, pizza hut, some burger place, idr what else) and the meal card could get me a meal from one of those places once per week.

I usually went to the cafeteria place and would put tupperware containers in my backpack, fill them with a bunch of stuff, and then go back to my dorm. that was cool cus I could get enough for a few days and kinda just be a shut-in

did the place actually say panda express on it? iirc like bringing in tupperware was not supposed to be allowed

I never lived in a dorm but my ex-girlfriend lived in one at University of Delaware. I don't actually know if they had a mess hall because every time I went down to visit her we always went out for food to Cluck-U (which I think is gone now) or Grotto Pizza (which is still there) or one of the other food places since her dorm was right behind Main Street. I'd take her to the grocery store a lot too so she could buy ramen and other food for during the week since she wasn't allowed to have a car on campus.

yeah, they were all located in the student center. there was also a subway and a starbucks, now that i think of it.
and it wasn't, i got caught a few times, so what i started doing was getting one of the plates like normal, then going to a table and filling the tupperware containers there.
i kinda miss the mashed potatoes and pizza tbh, most of the stuff was hit or miss, but the good food was really, really good.

My college served Pizza Hut in the cafeteria. Lots of mini pizzas, and breadsticks with white sauce.
