Any must complete sidequests from Chapter 12?

The way they all popped up at the start of the chapter tells me this is my last stop for those types of quests before moving on with the plot. Kinda like what happened with XVI.

But now that I'm so close to the home stretch I kinda actually do wanna get round to completing the story.
If there's shit to see before then I'm all ears.

XVI's side missions added to the game a lot ahead of the endgame.

I do like how late game the loadouts have brought that same level of fun as the original. Always liked mix and matching materia to create certain types of character setups.
Yuffie is the most fun party member to play as, really like Tifa too.

Also like sticking Aeries somewhere as a comet bot, her wards come in handy when casting.

the original chocobo is the best one. if you go through all of the chocobo races you should get a type of armor that should make chocobo racing manageable even if you're new to karting

also I'm pretty sure you can still complete the quest without getting first, but maybe not

I think the Gongaga Chapter 12 Quest is probably the most worth doing for plot/character reasons. Cosmo Canyon's has the best reward (a Magnify materia), but is completely throwaway and somewhat annoying to do. Corel's/Costa Del Sol's is fun, especially if you are a Kyrie enjoyer.

Selena is the most broken chocobo because her ability is basically a blue shell.

Honestly much of this game is structured exactly like KH2's intro, but 10x as much. Is Nomura's influence actually all about minigames?

And yeah the radical narrative design saved Twilight Town. This game isn't so lucky (and it's a full 20 years later, standards have also changed).

I love games more than anyone on this board, since I'm the only one to actually invest my career in them. So right off the bat it's an absurd thing to say about me.

But even ignoring that, it's because I criticized... the chicken luring. That was the last straw. Chicken luring.

I was merely curious is all. I want to find a game that I enjoy that you also enjoy so we can share some common ground on something.

Strong disagree alone from the fact that the reward is the best.

Alright I found my new most hated quest.

This one in Gongaga where you have to sniff out the mushrooms and then twist them.

The twisting part is fine. I was about to get the scent for the last mushroom and as I was getting closer to sniff, it launched me right off a jump mushroom. And since I was just following the scent before to get to that platform, I couldn't figure out how to get back up to it and the scent will NOT pick up anywhere else (even if you just look up the location and go directly where the last one is) So I spent 10 minutes trying to figure out how to get back up to where I mushroomed off and just rage quit the whole quest.

Fucking hate navigating Gongaga. It's fine if you just want to dink around and accomplish nothing, but as soon as you want to try and get to specific spots on the map where there's a million jump mushrooms, it's the actual worst.

Oh I see, all this time I've mostly been using Aponi as the cornering seems good and hover lets me just cut through the course.

The equipment you get for winning the grade II ones is definitely the best in the game, should make the cup a lot easier.

Yeah just cleared that Sidequest.
I suck and often fall off track, so hovering through and just skipping those parts helped a lot.

But even though I have a skill issue, cactuar gates aside, this was one of the strongest minigames.

Week long vacation. Was hoping to be done but not a chance. I'm on Chapter 11.

Staying unspoiled is going to be a challenge

Feel like if the game removed the World Intel stuff but kept the sidequests, it would be better.
Though I guess if you do that, the beautiful open world they made would feel empty.

World Intel stuff is cool though, Ive been having a lot of fun with it

After doing sidequests and minigames in forever I finally went on to the date sequence and I am very relieved and happy with how that was done.

Holy fucking shit, if the first fight of 'Gourmands Are We' isn't the hardest in the game I'll be very surprised and terrified of what could possibly be harder. I just love getting swallowed and frog'd repeatedly.

Roll toward the worm when it comes out of the ground to not get swallowed.

I know that's how it supposedly works, but ya know when I'm 6 feet away from the worm coming down towards me and then just *poof* disappear into it's stomach, I'm gonna call bullshit on such a stupid mechanic.

Is there a way to expedite the worm spitting your party member out?

I don't think you get anything too grear particular but it can be very quickly done. There are 50 of them in total all over water, for sure more than 30 of them are in plain sight.

I just realized the reward for doing that side quest is actually really good.

Yeah the second fight actually gave me more trouble. Assuming this is the one with the giant worm and the bird? I'd just kill the bird and then focus on the worm second. When the worm was about to swallow I'd just switch teammates a lot and the worm would get confused on who to target and the AI would usually dodge it lol

Chapter 12 is the dedicated QB game I've been waiting for. QB Survival is pretty cool too but very harrowing. And I feel like the opponent doesn't have the same limitations as you?

Also Loveless is badass. Not sure how it's even possible to mocap that much dancing. I wonder if it happen with every date though? I need to go watch all of them since I got the most boring one.

God damn there's so many variations, with special background music too. How do you even get the bros one?

I got Tifa and was so relieved, scene was also more or less perfect. It appears they all have the same amount of side quests. Aerith and Tifa at least have the same amount of dialog options too so I wonder what the tiebreaker is between between those two, the beach fight?

I matched tifas swimsuit but not aerith. Guessing I just messed up dialogue somewhere

You get affection points for using synergy skills with the character

It might tie break based on who you talk to first in exploration scenes. That's how FF typically does affection.

I thought I was doing well with Tifa and Yuffie, but only Aerith and Red had blue icons by this time. I didn't even unlock their QB puzzles...

Yeah, if you do everything perfect (all side quests, all synergies, all conversations, same swimsuit), the beach fight is the tiebreaker between the two.

I got tifa on the chapter 8 date so I guess something swapped since then for me. But I looked it up online and you can just pick who you want to date on new game Plus so I'll just beeline to tifa ASAP once I beat it and pretend like the aerith date never happened

Gears and Gambits are totally fine. I'd say even in the upper half of minigames for me.

Nono Chocobo Gliding though.

Traversal around Cosmo is fine though. It ain't no Gongaga in that regard.

They really shot themselves in a foot with a lot of these minigames though, by demanding near perfection for some of the rewards. The more skill you demand, the more players will hit the rough edges of the controls and mechanics and became more frustrated. Players intuitively know when the game design isn't good enough to justify the time and effort they are investing to build skill in it.

It's also frustrating when there are legit great rewards hidden behind games you aren't good at. It was one thing for a new Tifa weapon to be in the desert rush minigame because I got that pretty quick, but the first appearance of Time materia was top prize in the initial Pirate's Rampage. Which I was so bad at. So it's like, am I going to grind an hour on getting top score in this minigame I'm not good at to get Time materia or just proceed with the story where I'm dying to see what happens next? I think I just left it there in the end and went back later for it...

Time was first purchasable in Cosmo Canyon iirc. But in that moment I was so frustrated to see this Time materia just out of reach, lol.

I crushed Pirate's Rampage in 2 tries, which means your experience is invalid, 10/10 game

That's kinda what I liked about the original.

It had a lot of minigames, but they were very short and most of them didn't have much in terms of rewards associated with them.
Do feel like they should just hand you summons like in the original bit with the option of having the boss battles against ever increasing power variants for those that want the challenge.

Odin wiped me out and I don't particularly want to go through that again because I'm already way over how long it took me to clear the original and that was with a few major sidequests cleared in full.

Chicken sidequest was annoying, but short enough that it wasn't too big a deal.

If the final instalment of the trilogy has Rebirth's biodiversity, but with Nibelheim level of ease of traversal and can be cleared with side content in 50ish hours then that's going to hit all the sweetspots for me.

This is one of my big issues. If I realize that something requires me to get a perfect score, it immediately kills my interest in even trying.

The piano kinda sucks. It's cool, but it's definitely way too demanding. I got a C-Rank on a performance with literally zero misses. C'mon...

Getting A is not too bad and that seems to be all you need even for the treasure trove.

Getting perfect is the most difficult thing in the game perhaps but it's only for show.

Yes you only need A-rank for the piano songs to get the Johnny item and the trophy. I'd still put getting A-rank on "Two Legs? Nothing To It" as one of the ten or so hardest plat-required tasks in the game though. Only mini-games I found tougher were 3D Brawler's last two matches, Glide de Chocobo's 3rd set, and the first frog mini-game.

Also the piano scoring is super-weighted towards Great over Good or Fine, so focus on maxxing your Greats.

I got Two Legs A rank first try. But I also used to main rhythm games heavily for like 10 years of my life.

Would be a bit annoying to go for the S on it though, it's not a fun song to play.
