The episode in OP starts with FoH attacking the Morlocks. Mutants outcasts who literally live in the sewers because they can't pass as humans. And the human supremacists still came down to kill them.

Thats fucked up and objectively wrong. And if Ted Cruz wrote a story where millionaires had to hide in underground mansions because they feared the evil liberals, its not the best discrimination analogy.

The Morlocks are a group that would face discrimination but like how some immigrant groups had a much easier time finding acceptance than others, I just dont buy that mutants wouldnt get that same sub division with some mutant groups benefiting.

Why exactly are you still insisting on comparing them to millionaires? It's not underground mansions, it's sewers.

The show makes it clear these guys are at the absolute bottom of society and have no powers that can change that. Both in the sense of real world political power and physical fighting power. They were defeated and captured by a gang of FoH who don't have superpowers and don't even have Sentinels on their side.

Im a teacher and kids saying they have to go to bathroom and wondering unsupervised for 20 minutes is a problem that can lead to liability issues. The better solution is a strong hallway presence but apps timing tracking how much instructional time a student missed is cheaper than hiring more people so I understand why schools go with it.

How does looking like a chicken help someone? Or having really saggy skin. Most mutants just have things like that, pointy ears, a long neck, 20 fingers on each hand and stuff like that.

In universe it's supposedly rather rare for a mutant to even have a "power" and ever rarer for that power to be useful in any meaningful ways. Like how useful would it be to cry acid tears? Or constantly be excreting mucus from your body? To taste things with your feet?

We don't see a ton of those things going on because the series focuses on the X-Men and Brotherhood guys. Xavier's school is there to teach them how to control their potentially dangerous powers, and Magneto would only recruit useful ones. The rest are just out there struggling to live, and being beaten to death and rejected by society.

The protests and terrorist attacks we see in the episode aren't targeted at the X-Men or the Brotherhood. It's targeted at mutants in general. The guy in the video is talking to Cyclops, but he's not talking about him.

Yes thats exactly what evolution is, generations of mutations. Modern birds for example evolved from dinosaurs. Different species, same path.

The gimmick of the X-gene is that its such a massive leap in human evolution that it produced a whole new species. At least thats how it was when I last was into X-Men. Dunno what the Disney canon is

Good point, I didnt think about them. It seems like anti-mutant bigotry comes up a lot in X-men stories but are there many issues where these characters are the protagonists?

Not that I'm aware of, but I'm not the most educated on the comics and stuff. Most of my knowledge of this conversation nes from the TV shows, movies, and stuff I've looked up online and watched videos on.

But as far as I'm aware it mostly focuses only on the unique mutants and big hitters. Which causes the disconnect between seeing them as weapons and seeing mutant kind as oppressed.

The X-Men represent the privileged mutants. Most can either pass as giman or possess enough power to defend themselves. They aren't the majority of mutants.

Much how irl, Barrack Obama or any wealthy black person existing doesn't negate systemic racism against black people.

The X-Men/Brotherhood are just the mutants who won the genetic lottery. Most of them have completely harmless, if not functionally useless, powers.

While it's true some mutants can be incredibly dangerous, Hank Pym made Ultron. No one is out there trying to Pol Pot scientists from existing because of Hank Pym or any of the evil scientists in Marvel.

Remember in X2, where it was established that Professor Xavier is capable of killing everybody on the planet, and was manipulated into nearly doing it twice in a row?

I think the graphic novel the marvels did a good job showing why people feared mutants.

Had a scene where the xmen where doing their thing but it was dark and what they where actually doing and how it appeared looked very different.

Kinda weird they made a movie called the marvels and it has nothing to do with the graphic novel

It still works. The idea is you can't paint a group with a single brush. Not every mutant is an omega level threat. Not every mutant has offensive power. Some mutants look hideous, some mutants are just awkward, and they all have one thing common. They all have been discriminating against.

And that's the thing about racism or stereotypes. It is the fear or the prejudice of a small negativity that leads to over correcting. That's extremely harmful. Ok, you have omega level threat, duh, you want to make sure nothing bad happens.... but if your only filter is "All mutant" that is bad.

Just as how you can say there's a lot black gang and you set the police filter to " All black" you are over correcting and causing harm.

It's like if a group of 30 million people had a one in a million chance to just randomly explode into a nuclear blast at any minute. However, X men shows us that, just like in real life, the discrimination and fear shows that they go after innocence bystanders.
