This is a little too sick and twisted for my tastes. Who are they getting to direct the films, The Joker?????

For Bambi they should just do a straight adaptation of the book. Otherwise lets face it these will all be terrible yet make bank because they will have roughly $0 budgets.

What happened to that monsters multiverse that started (and presumably ended) with the Mummy remake?

Somehow this one has already outlasted it.

Got cancelled after The Mummy underperformed. But that meant instead of a big budget film that was sure to be terrible we got Leigh Whannels Invisible Man which is one of the best horror movies of the decade.

2020's Invisible Man is such a damn incredible movie

On topic, this is all so stupid. I kind of love that they're announcing all of this on the tail of their Razzie wins but man I wonder if any of these will even scratch a 5/10

Not only that, they were so obsessed with their Dark Universe that they passed on Guillermo Del Toro's Creature from the Black Lagoon script, which he modified to become the Academy Award Best Picture film The Shape of Water.

It's incredible how much the Dark Universe failed. They just needed to give us a bunch of quality movies with the actual lead humans being the focus of it rather than the monsters. The monsters get us to the theater but the human characters keep you invested in the universe and wanting to see them interact.

Wasn't the human lead being the focus one of the main things wrong with The Mummy? I've not seen it, but I thought a lot of people were disappointed that it ended up as "Tom Cruise stars as Tom Cruise in Look How Awesome Tom Cruise Is (also there's a Mummy)"

No, it was mostly just because Tom Cruise's character wasn't fun for a big action film.

Like compare him to Brendan Fraser's Rick O'Connell in the previous Mummy trilogy. There you had a character who was so much fun to follow and this Tom Cruise character was none of that.

There were a lot bigger issues with the movie than that though.

Using the end of copyright protections for children's storybook characters to exclusively make really shitty horror films is not only intellectually lazy but also extremely boring and the 'shock value' that the movie exists is more impactful on its own than any part of those movies ever will be. Consumers putting any money into that garbage is doing everyone with even a slight interest in new, interesting, or innovative content (especially in the horror genre) a massive disservice.

Wait this isn't a joke?

Cool, I'm interested. Doubtful that any of these movies will actually be good but I'll stay hopeful for now.

I'm not a huge fan of horror films but that's mostly because they largely aren't the type of scary that I enjoy. I prefer the creepy atmosphere like in Nightmare Before Christmas. If Poohniverse can do something like that in a more mature way I'll be hooked.

But it'll more likely be generic cheap schlock, "oh no Pooh is mean now and he has a taste for blood, cue the lazy jump scares"

I don't know how they're expecting to drum up hype for this after the first was widely declared not even funny-bad.
