The conspiracy thing near the end is a bit silly, but I don't get "anti-vaxx" from that post so much as I read distrust in the government.

Maybe you just need to get out of the capitalist bubble and realize you grew up in a country meant to manipulate you into being their slave. We only have the 40 hour work week because our country used to be so shitty and capitalist nut gobbling that children were working 16 hour days in factories for like 25c a day because it was necessary for the household to survive.
Don't worry, your Republican congress-people are working at least 10 hours a month to make sure kids can get back in those factories again soon.

Weird how so many people lack reading comprehension in this topic.

It seems TC is talking about people making the same amount an hour but working 8 less hours a week. So unless wages increase or the cost of living lowers, that person makes less money a week. Therefore; more people will struggle financially. Isn't that what you guys want to avoid?

32 hour work week would be great but not when there is no wage increase ro make up for the lost hours. Enough people struggle financially as it is now. Why do you guys want people to struggle even more?

You seem be helping my point. People are already struggling financially working 40 hours a week because of a lack of wage increase as cost of living rises. If you cut those people hours and they still make the same amount an hour, they would struggle even more financially.

Here's and example:

Person makes 12 dollars an hour working 40 hours a week. Their pay would be 480 dollars a week.

Same person now works 32 hours a week at the same 12 dollars an hour. Now they make only 384 dollars a week. If that person was struggling to get by before, what makes you think they wouldn't making less money a week?

The ideal solution should be, lower the amount of hours in the work week, raise wages across the board and lower the cost of living.

Show of hands who actually does 40 hours of real work in their 40 hour work week

There are only 3 productive hours a day for most 8x5 workers. Six on any given day is just lucking out.

People fought and died for the 40-hour week, and we need to be thankful for that. But technology has become such that we don't need 40 hours anymore to be just as productive.

Employers need to figure that out and stop exploiting the labor pool.

They shouldn't be paying OT.

They should be paying for the 40 hours worth of productivity done in less time than 40.

Employers who think they're buying your time and not just your labor... should think about paying more.

It makes more sense to lower the cost of living across the board. Honestly there needs to be some kind of rule to prevent companies from just upping the cost of things without any real reason besides greed but I understand why the government refuses to intervene in these kind of issues until it blows way out of proportion.

So your solution is for people to make less money a week? Because that's what would happen if you lower the amount of hours in the work week while not either raising hourly wages or lowering the cost of living. I mean, I guess those people can find a 2nd job but that would make lowering the hours in the work week moot.

I would assume anyone being paid hourly at this point would be converted to salary, especially since many jobs that hit 40 hours a week already are salary. Did you not even consider this?
