The problem once again, is the poor/rich divide.
If a rich parent's child is being bullied they have quite a few options, and often either know, or know of, someone higher up in the chain to go to, if they feel the need to.

As an Asian who went into a highschool where it was 2% Asian, I got bullied specifically for being Asian even when the stereotypes didn't even apply to me. The amount of "small penis" jokes I heard from a lot of the "cholo's" (they self-described themselves as it, not me) was fucking unbearable. I was lucky enough where my dad confronted the dad of the main bully (because he was a CEO of a fortune 500 company) so the bully's dad took the issue of bullying serious to the point where he made him apologize in front his friends to me.

The bullying didn't 100% stop (they would still crack racist Asian jokes behind my back), but it wasn't as serious as it was once before where it was physical. I asked my dad that if the other dad didn't take it seriously what would he have done, and he told me "I really don't know, but my gut would've been to probably beat him up myself. That's how we handled bullying back in Vietnam." So I understand, I don't condone it but I'm understandable and sympathetic to this father.

Gotta teach your kids how to fight specifically for shit like this. My dad is not a great dad, but I'm grateful he taught me early.

I wonder if there was some history here where perhaps the father had previously taken all the more diplomatic measures to stop the bullying yet the school did nothing. It may have reached a tipping point where the father decided to take matters into his own hands.

It's wrong but as a father of a little one myself, I kinda get it.
If you read the article, which I suggest everyone do, and critically analyze it, you come upon this sentence in the article.

"An affidavit says Thomas came to the school to sign out his daughter, who was having problems with another student over photos being shared."

Surely they were innocuous "photos" of her climbing a mountain or smiling with a group of friends.

To hit it on the head here, it most likely was nudes. That's about the only reason that would warrant a parent furious enough to come in and confront a boy about his daughter.

I want people to understand that this father went into the school and probably squared up to the kid, didn't even hit him (although I'd really like to watch the 3 minute video and I'll probably look for it myself), and was aggressively telling him to apologize to his daughter.

I'm surprised he wasn't throwing hands honestly at this point. He was rather restrained. Most likely he did address the issue with the school. But the title needs to be fixed.

Father arrested after confronting kid in classroom for bullying his daughter with her nudes

This completely changes the context in my eyes. I'm surprised he didn't call police for distribution of child pornography in this case.

Now I'll eat my words if the photos are just unflattering images of his daughter for example looking messy eating in the cafeteria, but I'll be damned if it isn't nudes. That's about the only context where a parent would come rushing in for their child into a school with a restrained fury. "Photos being shared" is such a stupid phrase to use here and really confounds WHY the father was there. It really makes a big difference in justifying why he was there. It's especially stupid to be going around asking parents if a parent should confront a bully in the school. What they should be asking the other parents is if a parent should confront a bully who is sharing nudes of your child and see if anyone changes their replies. BIG difference hidden behind "sanitized language" here.

This is why people should read the articles and think critically. Most people talking about bullies and physical shit this is pretty bad and damning. I wouldn't be surprised if this slapped a terrible reputation on the girl.

I've seen nothing to indicate sharing of nude photos is involved. The father's demeanor makes me doubt they were. He asks "do you have a problem with my daughter?" and accuses the kid of "bothering" his daughter, then he just kept asking for an apology. Doesn't seem like statements you'd make towards someone sharing nude photos of your daughter. The kid he's harassing says he hasn't done anything wrong, and says something about photos with his family. A couple other kids come to his defense. The father then starts threatening the kids who were defending him.

Do you have the full video I'd like to see it.

And like I said I'm only allowed to think of a reason why the father would do this when the news article states this:

"An affidavit says Thomas came to the school to sign out his daughter, who was having problems with another student over photos being shared."

Would you like to speculate what kind of photos would incense a father to the point that he goes into a school and confronts a high school kid? I would really like to know.

This seems like the correct response from a parent to a bully.

Fuck public schools.

I got found texts being sent to my 12 year old telling her to kill herself and google docs shared on school property during school hours saying the same. Why? Because one of the bullies pranked her and told her she could sit at the cool table at lunch, then rejected and made fun of her in front of everyone.

This school had a kid kill themselves a few years back for the same exact fucking thing. Went to the school with all of the proof. Their plan was to further separate my kid (not the bullies), who had already been ostracized due to the bulling, and have them all sit together and talk it out. Yeah that will work, and wouldn't cause further mocking.

Then they pull my kid in and interrogate her and not the bullies. I know someone at the school personally and they told me none of the kids were called up, none were suspended, or even given detention.

I pulled her out of school that day and filed a police report on the kids, their parents, and the school. Then i got a lawyer.

Now I'm pulling 2 jobs to pay for her private school, counseling, and the legal fees while the school is delaying the casing. The school has a "policy" forced by a state law that doesn't cover my child.

Fuck the schools and these little fucking shits. This soft on bully shit needs to fucking go. Every single kid that does this kind of shit needs to be expelled instantly and the schools should be able to take actions against the parents.

I took the high road, all it got me was debt and frustration. Would have been easier and more effective to just give these fuckers a taste of their own medicine and spend a night in jail for "harassment" by humiliating them by calling them out at lunch with all the other shit that was said in other messages and google docs i found.

The only scenarios I can think of where this doesn't work is either losing a fight, which is still far better for self-respect, or having a mass group social issue, which should be taken on another scope entirely.

Perhaps not for the core bully, but most of the hangers-on around that bully should have far more respect for the bullied person after that and back off.

We should remember that not every bullied person (or even their father) is capable of kicking the shit out of their bully (even assuming they want to). This isn't a movie where the good guy underdog triumphs just because. A lot of the time they are just going to get a worse beating. Bullies are often raised in violent households themselves, and have been used to fighting all their lives.

Which is one reason why better solutions than 'do more violence' are needed. Because not every victim wants that, nor has a father who is capable of doing it on their behalf.
