We thought it would be a remaster, but it seems FFVII success has encouraged SE to expand the scope:

Why are they remaking a game that's already perfect and not one that actually needs a remake, like 8?

There is a lot that keeps IX from being perfect. Just a few issues.
-Trance mechanic not being controllable.
-Really low steal rates for the last items bosses give.
-Insane 100 card limit which ruins the card game.
-Too much hitting the damage limit of 9999 by the Endgame with too much.
-Hideous art style (Sorry, had to say it.)
-Ripping off Dragon Ball. People with tails. Kuja blowing up a planet.
-Quina...
-Story being all over the place.
-Annoying missable chests.
-Never getting to defeat Beatrix (She really couldn't have been fought as a Superboss?).
-The final boss coming out of nowhere.

I'll end on a positive note though...
-It had 4 characters in a battle. 3 is just too limiting, and I feel hurts FF7 and FF8.

If they actually gave it remake treatment like FF7, that would just mean that I wouldnt buy it.

Oh for the love of god they better leave the fucking story alone.
We don't need 7's bullshit in the 9 remake.

Like Konami it's obvious they're going for the popular ones to remake even if they don't need remakes

Bruh, they need to do one for FF8. It's the one that needs it the most, it's the one that *deserves* a second look, and it's the best one for how they would actually remake it: bloated and unfaithful to the source material.

FF8 would benefit the most from the remake treatment.

Squall doesn't say "whatever" in Japanese all the time like he does in the English translation.

Also, in English anyway, they messed up the main villain's name which should have been Artemisia instead of Ultimecia.

So yeah, it does appear the translation was flawed.

Your forgetting the hidden time limit for one of the best weapons in the game.

Oh god just imagine the soulless crap if they try to make it more "realistic and modern" looking.

I wonder about the state of the animated series. It's likely a large tie-in with that.

Anyway, yeah, the art style in 9 is kinda weird to me. Like, in-game I think the art direction is peak -- it feels like a Disney movie and is very aesthetically pleasing. But then I look at Zidane's render with his bigass head and I'm like...ehhh.

Why would people care about his tail? There's frog people and rat people. ...And whatever the fuck Vivi is.

Not going to discuss Quina's character development (or lack there of), but I thought that Strago (FF6) was the best blue mage due to...
-Only needing to SEE the ability used, by friend or foe alike. With Quina, you need to baby an enemy's HP down to <25% to get it to work, which I thought was annoying. Also just got the most use out of Strago's Lores compared to other Blue Mages in different games. Aqua Breath, Mighty Guard, Aero, White Wind, and Grand Delta all were useful at different parts of the game.
-Second place would probably go to FF7, if only because Beta is so spam-able and powerful relative to how earlier in the game you can get it.

I don't want it to be easy, doesn't feel earned. Also, eating something alive is just more fun than seeing something.

Will have to disagree with you on needing to feel earned part. Learning Blue Magic shouldn't feel obnoxious which it does in a lot of Final Fantasy games. FF6 gave you several avenues to learn most of the lores (including Gau's Rages and Relm's Sketch), which made learning them a lot less tedious than in other games.

As for eating something alive...ha! I guess there is some spectacle to seeing that.

And now we have an opportunity to have an animation that shows this happening. Probably not gonna happen, but fingers crossed.

...didn't they already fix that in the PC version?

I hope it's not to the extent of FFVII's. I can see making it grander, but please keep it to one game. I'm of the opinion that FFVII was the only game they could get away with doing that.

you can fast forward the battles but not the long ass loading screens

Agree with this sentiment. Making the FFVII Remake Episodic killed my interest in it.

I hope you are right.

I don't think they could do ff9 in an episodic format unless it's a very different sort of game. Same plot experienced in a very different venue.

The first part is going to be 70 dollars, 100 hours, and end right when the ship crashes into the forbidden forest.

Just curious, but do levels/equipment actually carry over between Episodes? Someone said it didn't, which...makes me want to play it less than I already did.

It doesn't, but it doesn't particularly bother me since the characters start out as more capable/powerful than they did in Remake anyway.
