I recently learned that the English translation was flawed, and that might be why many people outside Japan hate it. Supposedly it has a better reputation in Japan Squall doesn't say "whatever" in Japanese all the time like he does in the English translation. Also, in English anyway, they messed up the main villain's name which should have been Artemisia instead of Ultimecia.
