Throwing the first amendment out is a much bigger national threat. This is just a precedent. Frankly, it will become our duty to create active tiktok, clearly American accounts for the sole sake of protest.

even if you don't accept that, it's a CORPORATION telling you what to think. ByteDance, which controls the algorithms that determine everything you see.

so it's fine for a corporationto curate people's feeds and the content that's propagandizing millions of people. but if the US government were to pass a law to combat algorithm-based radicalization, THAT and ONLY THAT would be dystopian.

Twitter is controlling what their users see. Facebook is controlling what their users see. Google, Apple, and all others control what their users, the average US citizen see. What I find especially funny about this is that if China is banning the things shown on TikTok and showing their own version to themselves not only does that imply the things on TikTok are entirely of our own, they don't even realize that they're the ones praising China's propaganda to their citizens. i'm not hypocritical, you've just got your fingers in your ears. there's two issues here.

1. tiktok is a national security threat. it just is, and china shouldn't control it. it needs to be divested, full stop.
2. other US-based social media is also really bad at causing people to be radicalized, and there needs to be additional legislation to make every one of their algorithms politically neutral and transparent also.

I'd actually say it's the oligarch ruling classes underestimating how effective their various distraction campaigns (via traditional news networks primarily, though social media then allows those affected to parrot and signal-boost) are when it comes to the gullible.

This will continue to get worse until the money is affected, at which point it will almost immediately stop, give or take a couple weeks
