I know not everyone failed and there are still those like Nostalgia Critic and the Video Game Nerd and a few others, but between seeing Rooster Teeth fall apart despite how much success it had and those like On top the 4th wall falling apart its just depressing that the era of Internet upstarts seems to have ended in failure.

Sure it was unrealistic for everyone to become outright movie starts but at the start it felt so awesome seeing all these pepole just in there rooms be successful and being able to make a career over it but then in fighting destroyed just about most of them.

Its not like they are not the only ones having issues with the whole Writer's Strike that crippled the entire Entertainment Industry, it feels like its becoming a bigger issue that the entire industry is collapsing and that only the " Gods" AKA Amazon, Netflix, and a few others will rule over everything because they crushed the entire world and, its just, depressing how it went from where it looked like anyone with talent having a shot at making it big turning to only the " Elite" will control everything after all, sigh.

I don't know that having a successful career of nearly two decades that made them fairly wealthy really counts as RT failing. Even top billing movie stars fade in popularity. There are new top YouTube/twitch celebrities, they're going to fade out and retire, then there'll be new ones.

Its more then just one star failing though, its that it seems like all the start up internet groups are failing...Zero Punctuation, Rooster Teeth, On Top of 4th wall, it just feels like greed destroyed everything.

The Yogscast is still doing just fine if that's any consolation.

Coincidentally, they also never sold themselves to anyone and are still run in-house.

Smosh seems to have reformed.

Did ZP actually fail? It looked to me like the Escapist was being hard carried by ZP and the latter just said "outtie" after some internal drama. It probably won't be *as* successful for a while since they have to rebuild a new brand, but I don't think Yahtzee is hurting at all lol

It feels very weird to say somebody failed when they have like 16 years of success under their belt.

From what I saw comments say, The Escapist was actually on an upswing with the new CEO (or whoever) they had who was successfully starting new series and the like. Then the company fired that CEO and all of the talent - Yahtzee included - went with him.

The whole thing ended up being a viral advertisement for some movie that ended up being canceled anyway. I think she later was on some college based drama. If you never finished her videos

She was raised by a cult and if I remember right, was going to be sacrificed to some ancient god or something. I dont remember if it had a definite ending or ended on a cliff hanger. I watched the whole thing like 15 years ago

I'd never heard of it, but I looked it up and I don't think this is true. It was just a web series that initially presented itself as a real teenage girls vlog. It wasn't advertising a movie, though that is something people initially thought.

Why would you be sad? Most have made millions and are set for life.

What happened to Linkara? He got 25k views just 10 days ago while FunHaus would get around 40k with 20+ employees and a studio.

Did they fail, or did they move on after success? RT was owned by one of the biggest media companies in the world, they did pretty well for themselves.

Exactly. "Failing" isn't the right word whem many of them just move on to other things.

People don't understand the amount of work thay goes into their channels. Its basically a full time job.

They got success, and moved on to other things they were more interested in. Most people don't want to do YT or streaming for forever.

There's also something to be said with cashing out while the getting is good.

Look at all the people who used to be loved, then had controversy destroy their reputation and legacy (Sometimes this is well deserved).

Or people who smashed head first into obscurity because they fell off hard due to in inability to adapt.

You make a couple million doing something people love, you can walk off in the sunset and 50 years from now people will go "Hey remember [person]? They were nice, I wonder how they're doing?"

I mean just look at Jk Rowling who absolutely won't have nice things said about her.

it wasnt an advertisement for anything it was its own thing.

the whole concept was really cool there were a few website puzzles and stuff too

Smosh has almost died like twice, I think they've learned from their mistakes and how to make a successful product/channel, and seem to be in an OK spot right now.

20 years is a good run for any creative outlet. The people behind Rooster Teeth will go find something else, it might not be as successful, but that's show business. Not unlike an actor being the main character of a long-running TV show and then never quite seeing the same highs ever again.

And the remnants of the Escapist at Second Wind are probably better than they ever have been output wise. They still have an uphill battle to become a financially stable, but the fact that someone like Yahtzee can completely abandon his old platform over night and pick up the next day elsewhere is a sign of success, not failure.

My bad got that mixed up with Channel Awesome, which collapsed after how corrupt the Walker's and there boss really were , Nostalgic Critic is still going but the site collapsed and a lot of those guys just fell apart soon after.
