You won't starve or get thirsty. You won't get sick of disease like bacteria or virus. You don't have to poop or pee.
You will wander around liminal spaces like in this video and it is just you. After 5 years you return to the real world and have 1 billion dollars.

That seems like it would cause permanent mental damage, depending on the kind of person you are. Even solitary confinement comes with an hour of "gym" and 3 meals a day. Some people lose their shit, some don't. This guy didn't,

and this guy has mostly recovered but still has major issues.

spaces that give a empty otherworldly feeling yet somehow familiar like you been there in a dream sorta

basically you be wondering around in creepy land with no one else around for 5 years

BUT
some liminal spaces are like abandoned bookstore or funland so you can read books or go down a slide from a creepy clown face's mouth!

I don't think it'd be anywhere near as bad as solitary confinement in one cell.

Hell no. That would drive me insane, it would be like some Twin Peaks shit, thinking life was a dream and having flashbacks to the liminal spaces. The money isn't worth what sanity I have left.

My understanding of it is think of an abandoned shopping mall (or similar place) but you go in and it's like it was shut down yesterday... things aren't in disrepair or covered in graffiti, the electricity all still works, etc. Everything's basically fine on the surface, but empty and eerie.

A memory that comes to my mind is when I was in high school and school had let out, but I realized I accidentally left my textbook in the basket under my chair of my last class. The teacher had noticed it there and was kind enough to leave the classroom unlocked in case I came back for it... but yeah, the part of the school I was in was basically deserted, no students, teachers, nobody.

Say you break the physics in a game and accidentally clip through a wall, into an area that isn't part of the game's map. The game's mechanics don't know how to handle this.

This is that concept applied to reality.

The concept itself comes from the weird sense of enclosure and repeating patterns in (usually) manmade areas. Say you're at a hotel, and it's just halls and doors throughout. Logically, you know there's a staircase or elevator somewhere that gets you to can exit. More immediately, though, all you can perceive is the same pattern of halls and doors that lead to other halls and doors. Merely having a pattern suggests repetition with no apparent limit.

It is probably relatable if you ever got lost in a hotel real late at night, and it turns out you were told your door was on the wrong floor. It is very disorienting.

umm no....

solitary confinement is being stuck in an extremely small room with barely any lighting and no ability to do much of anything

in this liminal space you can wander around and if you find a bookstore it has books, if you find a restaurant it could have food, music store got music, I suppose if some nature area works as a liminal space you can see nature, kiddie playgrounds with slides etc

If it were to take up 5 real world years, probably not. Coming back to find everyone though I was dead and moved on wouldn't be great, even with a billion in the bank. If it just get dropped back where I was with 5 years of memories, sure, easy choice.

people will know you did the challenge if you want them to so they will not think you are dead unless they doubt the possibility of physics altering inter-dimensional travel I suppose

but if you let said people know this they would also know you are now a billionaire

My understanding of liminal space is that it's a repeating pattern. There isn't actually anything there that's going to be different from where you start at, outside of some rare weird "glitches". Halls and doors and nasty carpeting forever, or all the dark space around a gas station leading back to the gas station.
