So the game has you fight "commies" (robots), bugs (bugs), calls Super Earth's government an, ahem, "managed democracy", and throws away lives into the cogs of war and government much in the same way that fascist societies do (you die A LOT and respawn with new drop pods all the time).

Starship Troopers is a very real influence to the game, and it shows in every fascet of the game. And Starship Troopers (the movie, at least) is a blatant critique of fascism and people who aren't aware that they live under a fascist government--much like in Helldivers.

A pity then that the message that the folks behind the production of the film intended to spread got lost in the cool factor of space marines fighting giant bugs while wearing snappy uniforms, wouldnt you agree?

I mean, its no wonder why you have an increasing amount of folks on the political right unironically pushing for Heinleins ideas for government in spite of the film showing that that might not necessarily be the best idea, quite the opposite actually, as they failed to adequately illustrate the actual fascistic tendencies of such a style of government.
