They dont for one second believe this. If they get control of the federal government in 2025, they will work to ban it nationwide along with abortion and contraceptives.

Fascists like Mike Johnson are true believers. They believe it is perfectly acceptable and not a sin at all to lie to their enemies in order to advance their gods agenda. Jesuss teachings are meant to restrict everyone else, not them. I saw way too much of this growing up in the rural Midwest.

Of course.

The religious right needs compensation for their loyalty and unlike democrats, republicans reward their base.

The reward for their loyalty is an erosion of rights for women and LGBTQ folks, just like the white supremacists are rewarded by attacking immigrants and policies like affirmative action.

It's less that they are against it and more that screwed up beliefs when life begins is already harming it in one state. If frozen embryos count as human life an accident can be seen as mass murder.

It's defacto banned in Alabama now by making it too legally risky to provide IVF services. Other states will follow as the opportunity arises.

Great. So are they willing to codify into law that frozen embryos are not legally people? If not, they can talk all they want about how much they support IVF but the effect in Alabama or in any states where there are similar rulings will still be a loss of IVF services.

The Alabama ruling didn't outlaw IVF. It caused clinics to stop IVF treatments because if frozen embryos are legally children there's too much liability for those clinics since they're vulnerable to civil lawsuits and even criminal prosecution if anything happens to those embryos.

Oh, we're playing games instead of addressing the issue as an adult, and since you as a conservative have no moral issue with lying you can pretend it stops there - no reason to be concerned.

So we're pretending state supreme court justices are picked and make their decisions in a political void, and that candidates can then pretend to ignore the issue because elections are in a void now to make your talking point work.

This is part of that compartmentalization process... on the right, all someone has to do is say "GrEeN nEW deAL!!!" or "DEI" and you'll immediately saddle every democrat with it whether they publicly admit they support it or not... that's the irony here.

If they really support IVF, they could unanimously pass a bill on Monday in both houses of Congress to make IVF legal and outlaw any state from banning the procedure.
Why let them say, "trust us, we're on your side" and wait till they're re-elected, when they can fix this right now if they care so much?
Instead, we see their true position:

It is when the courts have determined that it means that. Stop. Stop fucking carrying water for religious fanatics. Stop treating them like good faith actors. Just fucking stop. When you do it you are enabling them. Grow up.

Start treating the GOP as what it is. The enemy of a free, just, and equitable society. Do not give them the benefit of the doubt on anything. Assume that everything they do is only for the benefit of themselves. They are fascists. Stop acting like they are anything else.

Now as it relates to the OP, anyone who interviews or questions them on the subject needs to just tell them "I don't believe you and I think you are fucking liar" when they voice support for IVF.

If they wanted they could easily pass laws to protect IVF access. They don't want to protect it. They want control over people's reproduction.

IVF has a very high failure rate. Classifying these frozen embryos as children means that anytime this child isnt born, for whatever reason throughout the process, legally you killed a child.

Do you not see how its essentially a ban? IVF isnt a simple process as it is, and now ANYTHING going wrong means that under the law of Alabama youre a child murderer. Nobody is going to risk that so yes, its basically banned.
