I've been wanting to post this somewhere just to get it off my chest, and I guess this topic is as good as any.
On principle, I'm opposed to the very concept of AI art. At best, it's an insult to actual artists who put time and effort into their craft. That's to say nothing of the way it steals from artists - both by directly ripping off their work and by putting them out of jobs. I've seen a tweet floating around that puts it well, talking about how AI was supposed to automate manual labor so people could focus on marking art, but instead, AI is making all the art, leaving the people with nothing left but manual labor. It's dystopian. I also think the proverbial Pandora's box is already open. There's no going back to a world without AI art. Permitting it is in the interest of corporations, so it's never going to have legal ramifications. Like it or not (and I think for most of us, it's the latter), AI art is here to stay. I think the silver lining is that, as it becomes more sophisticated and widespread, we'll start to see a lot of one-person multimedia projects. For example, I'd love to make visual novels. I'm a proficient writer, and I've dabbled enough in coding that I can handle something like a VN. But I can't do art or music. If I could outsource those tasks to AI, I would be able to make VNs - and, eventually, more complicated games - by myself. I wouldn't have to compromise with others to get the project done. I could create exactly what I want, perfectly tuned to my vision. And so could everyone else. I can see the value in that. Rather, since we're not getting rid of AI art no matter how much we might want to, then at least we can understand how we can use it to our benefit. --- Master Duel (373-244-752) | FGO (960,463,298) Let's be friends~ ... talentless fetish artist mad about ai I look forward to the day when you finally have a good take on something. And I like to believe that you are the way you are due to a massive chip on your shoulder that might go away at some point. Anyway, AI-generated content (because as has been previously established, only techbros would call it 'art') gave me a pretty big existential crisis when it first hit the scene, but the genuine threat of robots stealing our leisure activities / artistic pursuits from us grows slimmer by the day. Unlike photography or 3D modeling, it's not creating a new art form. It isn't exciting the senses with a revolutionary form of expression, and it isn't giving anyone anything they haven't already seen a million times already; it's just repackaging and regurgitating what's already there with all the care and effort of a mad lib. It's just a way of more efficiently hypersaturating a market of visual media that's already pretty darn oversaturated. And even when the day comes that AI-generators are able to get over the whole fingers issue for good, people are more in tune than ever when it comes to spotting how fake it all is. --- Simple questions deserve long-winded answers that no one will bother to read. ... It seems pretty silly to be against it existing. The bad thing is that greedy companies have stolen from creators without proper compensation.
