By the way, I saw someone talking about how theyd like to use AI art for making a VN and such, but have you never seen Higurashi and Umineko, for examples? The art isnt impressive, yet it still managed to garner a fanbase. Undertales sprite work is often seen as amateurish, but its like the one of the most popular indie games. Touhous art didnt start as something amazing either. I think its basically just an excuse people have, they cant afford art, and they think they cant make it, but chances are they havent tried in any serious way.

He was attacking people over something dumb in another topic, and I admittedly took a stupidly low route by going "You practically beg for sympathy in another topic, but then just openly attack people in every other topic." And then he got mad and made a topic specifically about me over it and then closed his account and then reopened it.

I felt bad then, because I did make a shitty jab. That said, he has since just continued his shitty behavior of attacking and insulting people for no real reason, and doesn't at all seem sorry about it, so... I don't really care, anymore.

as much as i shitpost, i tend to refrain from personal topics unless they're directly relevant to the discussion. even still, ITT i've made no criticism of anyone's person, only their art that i've personally seen and they have an active topic for.

you went in on me in a completely unrelated topic on a personal matter that you know fuck all about. you ever watch your spouse and unborn child bleed out til they're white as a sheet? you ever have to clean up more blood than a murder scene? you ever have to do this dozens of times over six months while constantly worrying one or both will die at literally any moment? you ever have to see your kid born premature and traumatically with multiple brain injuries because your spouse was dying and had to have an emergency hysterectomy? you ever have to deal with a decade of unresolved trauma b/c literally no therapist that hasn't dealt with with a similar experience is equipped to advise you on it? you ever have to grapple with the fact that 60% of the couples that experience what you went through end in the suicide of one or both partners b/c it's so horrific to deal with?

My feelings on it are mixed. It can be fun to play with but it's of limited use to me since it's hard to get it to reproduce images from my mind. It mainly works for general things and the more specific my request the harder it is to get it to do what I want.

And there are also a lot of valid concerns about the tech, such as:
- Lack of legal protections and orgs for artists that other creators like writers and musicians have to push back against AI replacement
- Lack of transparency from AI companies about their data sources and lack of consent and accreditation for using said sources
- AI image spam on art sites and users profiting from it
- Artists being falsely accused of being AI due to their style
- Image (and video) gens potentially eventually being good enough to be used on a large scale to manipulate public opinion or spread misinformation

I've long suspected that a species inability to choose to avoid "inevitable" or convenient technologies might a Great Filter or maybe even the Great Filter. The threat of nuclear annihilation hangs over our heads because we "inevitably" had to make weapons once we learned how to split the atom, and these "inevitably" had to proliferate and grow in number. There certainly is a possibility that AI research may eventually produce an incredibly dangerous system that leads to our destruction (something as simple as a misaligned autonomous system connected to military assets might do it). I mean, it's not even out of the realm of possibility that if AI technology doesn't plateau that the economic and creative impacts combined with unchecked climate change and global political instability might do it, or at least deal an incredible amount of damage to society the likes of which the world hasn't seen in thousands of years.

It's depressing to think that humans collectively have no free will because things simply must happen for money, political advantages, or military advantages. Maybe the dolphin people on Europa are doing better?
