As arguably the biggest fan of CK on this board, he can fuck himself forever.

Yeah I was a big fan of him for many years, and honestly I think there could have been a path back for him to earn forgiveness.

even before the NYT expos, there were lots of rumors about him; as a fan I believed his vehement denials because how could someone so smart self-aware about the creepiness of men be that way himself?

so even when he fessed up it wasnt until years of denialhe only confessed because the NYT article was so thorough and damning. Meanwhile he had been ruining the careers of women behind the scenes for decades. So his initial apology rang hollow, especially when he came back to the stage 9 months after saying he would take time to step away and listen with material that basically blamed the victims painted everything he did as consensual and he was the victim for people finding out about his kink

to be clear, there is nothing consensual about a boss calling his subordinate into his office, in the workplace, and asking them to watch him masturbate. That is never okay

And that's where his career essentially starts and ends now. He'll never get another TV deal, he'll never be in another Hollywood film, he's a comedian from now until he wants to retire, but as most comedians don't actually retire, this is it for him.

He went from a man with ambitious ideas to a man who's stuck in a dead end job with no chance for advancement.

Even that depends on whether he creates some content that feels lucrative enough for Netflix. Same way with Chappelle. Doesn't have to necessarily be Netflix bit you get what I'm saying

If he was smart with his money, he might already have enough saved up that he could just retire and be set for life right now.

Even if he doesn't have that much, he is a big enough name to automatically sell out big theaters and guarantee himself specials on Netflix if he can come up with new material. Hell, he could probably make a decent living just phoning it in and recycling his old shit for the next few decades. In other words, his stand up is still more lucrative than 90% of the comics who are considered successful.

Roseanne of all people outed him for doing this in like 2015, whenever the first secret lives of let's released. It was super out of nowhere and random.

The problem is proof. It's like when your family hears rumours that a pervy uncle likes flirting with young girls. You didn't witness it yourself, and there's no direct proof -- so it's just rumours, and he still gets invited to family reunions and holiday events.

You don't want to make a mistake and destroy the uncle without 100% guaranteed proof, so everyone tiptoes around the issue, and gossips behind his back.

Same goes with these celebrity circles. If you're an actor or producer, you don't want to ruin that person's career without 100% direct proof, so you tiptoe around Bill Cosby and shit.

Also the rumors don't necessarily match the reality. With Cosby and Weinstein, a lot of people said the rumors they heard was that the men were womanizers who would aggressively hit on women and try to get into their pants, not that they were actual rapists. Which is gross and makes them a bad person, but it's not something that you can do anything about if they're in a position of power and you're not, especially if you have no evidence beyond rumors that you've heard.

He will still make money off his name in the future.

I think it's fine that he comes back eventually, so long as he never harasses co-workers he has power over again.

The Cosby accusations were public knowledge for years and years before Hannibal "spilled the beans", they were literally on his Wikipedia page. Just nobody cared until they decided to care.

I just would like to add as well that you can't trust Wikipedia. I mean, I grew up in a time where you couldn't and literally anyone could change a wiki page. I don't know how far they've come along. It's weird how people are so black and white in everything except their own lives....not defending anyone. Just defending proper research, sources, and evidence.

It's more like your friend tells you her daughter told her that your brother touched her inappropriately and you didn't believe her.

Everyone in the comedy community knew about CK, Cosby, Callen, among many, many others. They just didn't do shit about it. The only thing I hope is comedians I personally like don't turn into creeps like CK.

Hearing about the accusations =/= Knew that he did it.
If I don't see proof, I'm not going to assume that a friend of mine did anything. I might suspect and tiptoe, but I'm not going to automatically assume.

No one had access to the Cosby settlements besides the people who were directly involved.

So that's what comedians were doing. They were steering clear and making rumours behind his back -- like Hannibal Burress.

Same as I would do as a father. If I suspected, but had no proof, I would warn my family and tell everyone to steer clear.

Or, if you were someone like Gwyneth Paltrow's friend, I can be like Brad Pitt, and confront Harvey Weinstein, and threaten to punch him in the mouth.

That he didn't physically assault them or demand sex is why I can personally "un-cancel" him over time - but the part that makes it worse than just being creepy is that the power dynamic put those women in a terrible position that could have harmed their careers if they spoke up.

A lot of people are bring up that episode of his show that shined a different light. What did it for me was his bit about wanting a service where people donate their bodies to people with kinks. Albeit it was funny as hell he had a quick jingle in the willy wonka pure imagination tune. "You can cum, on my back, and pretend that im your father" lol

He could have gotten his kinks satisfied, I mean it may not be an "official" service but if you say you just want to jack off in front of a sex worker and have them act turned on or grossed out or whatever your fetish is, you can do that. If that was all he ever did I would say he did nothing wrong.

Now if he had done that to random people, but people of similar or higher levels of fame / influence / power in the industry, I would still think less of him. He made other people uncomfortable and secretly did this stuff behind his wife's back. He would be a creep and a liar. But I would still find it understandable and would be willing to give his new material a chance.

But he didn't just do that, he targeted young, new female comics who were in a position where it was really hard to say no. And then he threatened them, and possibly damaged their careers on top of that. I would have a hard time supporting him after that even if he showed proper levels of remorse, but he hasn't even come close.

Well she does contend that her experience had nothing to do with the other women and that he could offer her nothing/harm her career. She just sounds down to see it because Sarah Silverman's comedy revolves around her being horny and it seems that's not just an act she puts on.

I look at it like this, there's a million entertainers out there. If I liked Kid Rock or Staind or CK or Chappelle, there's nothing standing in my way from simply dropping them and listening to something else.

For every CK and Chappelle out there, there's also like 50 amazing standup comedians you've probably never given a thought to. Go search them out. Same goes for listening to late 90's rock. I'm sure you can just listen to Chevelle, Fuel, or Adema instead.

That's why it's so easy for me to drop certain people out of my orbit. There's far more talent out there than just them. Sure they may be good or great, but there's so much more out there I've never even scratched the surface on.
