also to be fair (?) the account suicides back in the day got pretty wild, just racial slurs and porn all around, so I get why they were overly cautious... to some extent. This might be me remembering my 15 year old brain's interpretation of things but it did feel like a police state sometimes with how over-enforced all of the rules were

There was definitely a lot of stuff that deserved to be modded back then (naturally, we were teenagers). Also a lot of stuff that made you scratch your head.

I'd like to say moderation seems way more lenient nowadays, but that's probably just because B8 has mellowed over time. No idea how bad it still is on other boards. Especially when they had to remove the Politics board entirely because it was single-handedly overworking the mods.

I think we're all too old and close-knit now to truly fuck with each other or do stupid shit for attention

It's a mix but mostly more lenient moderation for sure. I remember when they started transitioning to the modern style of moderation and my moderations dropped by like 90%. I was getting modded so often just a few months before that.

i mean these were the days when gris went from an example of how to censor a word to, at times, a word that would be modded.

yeah the moderation was a bit much and extremely inconsistent. gradually things got better, rules got looser, and everyone got older as bad words didn't matter as much.

if anything the turning point of a lot of moderation on this board happened around the time of the best and most famous one we've had - Shake's. what was it, Stevie? an account suicide so good even the mods were laughing and let him have it.
