I've known this for years. However, I haven't actually watched the film until now. I thought it was fun seeing all the similarities. Some were more obvious and others I'm stretching a little bit. Here's a few observations I made (mostly applies to MGS1): The main character's name is Snake, who is a special forces veteran and really likes smoking (Kojima is very upfront with the influence). The specific "Snake Plissken" name is used in both series. Both series involve having characters wearing an eyepatch. Big Boss has a real one, and Solid Snake has the Solid Eye on the same side as Kurt Russell. Snake and Snake Plissken have some impressive mullets. Both are cold, cynical and tired (although Solid, Big Boss, and Venom have characterization beyond this). Belligerent relations with the CO. The characters mention not liking needles in mission prep. Solid and Plissken are injected with some sort of fail-safe in case of mission failure or betrayal (neck-explosives/FOXDIE). Solo infiltration mission. Reliance on insider help (Brain and Maggie/Otacon and Meryl). Worth noting that Brain and Otacon are both engineers, who collaborated with the terrorists either willingly or unwillingly. A final car escape against a time limit. Supposed to be stealth mission but what actually happens in the movie and games kind of imply that being undetected didn't really matter (hello alerts). Terrorists make their play the day before an international nuclear treaty (Hartford summit/START II). Plans involve blackmailing/undermining the president. Main character gets captured. There's a fist fight close to the end.
