Okay but like, hear me out... people bought and played palworld because it's fun and the pals look cute.

If it was bad, people wouldn't have fallen in love with it. Yes, it's inspired by Pokemon and has similarities to it. No, that's not a bad thing.

Even when pokemon was new, other things similar to it were huge and it was a highly competitive space. The lack of real competition in recent years is a big part of why pokemon games have been mediocre for the past decade or more.
Which again I am not faulting people for that they can enjoy what they want to enjoy. I am faulting the developers because again they knew what they were doing with the designs period. If they did anything that didnt resemble Pokmon so much the game probably would have still sold somewhat if they kept the guns, it for the most part its that draw of Pokmon with Guns that has an edgy appeal to it.

The bad part about it is that it being so blatant means others will try to do that and it would just tank the indie scene down more then help.

And hell on the notion of Pokmon this doesnt do gamers justice either because Palworld isnt a direct competitor to Pokmon anyhow because again the genres are too damn different that it doesnt cater to the Pokmon crowd anyhow.

Im again not made at that, more that the fact that its using the look of Pokmon by their design to use them for a different type of game entirely and they are being reward for it.

And the fact that they are still within the same genre goes to show the kind of damage taking an existing IP and skirting around it legally does. Yes Enshrouded is more complex but its also still a survival crafting game that got bodied by Palworld because it was being more original with the genre.

Some people are way too focused on design elements being similar as if video games have never copied each other before.

Nothing is really 100% unique. You're bound to take inspirations from things you've enjoyed and people are also bound to come up with the same ideas despite never interacting with each other. There's nothing wrong with it.

Plus there's far more to Palworld than having Pokemon looking Pals

Palworld is fun, though. If other developers are inspired by them to do more interesting combinations of genre and art style, that can only be a good thing.

Uninspired ripoff games haven't been a thing for decades already. Palworld is actually inspired and charming. It's a good game and people love it.

Yeah but again its one thing to be inspired by something else, entirely another to basically copy designs but to do it just enough that you wont get legally bodied by a company you are copying from.

And again I am not faulting any fun designs of the gameplay loops but again just being blatant about it shouldnt be looked at with anything but either shrugs or criticism at the developers. Because obviously there are ways to make this work better and not be attached to just being a copy of someone elses works and looks.

There was no way an early access game that was only half finished and loaded with optimization and bug issues was going to sustain the most played game for any kind of length of time.

The important thing is they have tons of money to work with, tons of attention, and a built in base of a few million players. Now it's on them to support the game and finish it. IF they start churning out real content updates and fixes, players will start trickling back.

Ok obviously they dont exist but the problem with your claim is that Metroid didnt copy Alien if anything that is true inspiration from a source. Palworld just makes its inspiration too damn obvious without really hinting at it being different.

The difference is that if you are inspired by something if you are good enough at it you would be able to make a name out it if on your own and designs that while might invoke people pointing out some similarities sure, they they can stand on their own two feet. Palworld already lost that as anything, people will always now compare it to Pokmon.

And no but that wasnt my point my point was that if you are going to be blatantly copying another work in the way Palworld does it doesnt do that genre (survival crafting) really any good because now an exception is made to what people think those games are like and can lead people away from the genre once they taste more complex things.

Hell, take it a step further: a good chunk of pokemon designs are either real animals or things like ice cream cones. Some of them are less different than their real world counterpart than Palworld designs are from their pokemon equivalent. And I don't think anyone would argue that pokemon literally invented the concept of "fake animals that looks like real world ones."

And yet that doesnt negate my point. Taking inspirations of things is always going to be present in media for sure. However the issue at hand is that when it comes to inspiration of ideas and concepts is on one hand a lot of people end up making their own things here over time, crafting their own worlds.

Palworld has an identity issue to say the least because of how blatant that inspiration is in that case. Coupled with the whole guns thing and survival crafting and while you can have a fun game for sure you have a weird clash of different things into one pile.

They were actually still ripping shit off from that movie until at least MK6.

It wasn't bad enough to rip the whole movie off in the first game, they had to make sequels that went back to progressively rip off all the shit they missed in the first game.
