I made a topic here before and the majority of people did not want the masterpiece to be touched. I would link the topic but it's against the tos. But let's not derail. The point is some of you guys would not use the same argument to defend this game for others games in similar situations, and it's okay. Neon has no problem admitting being a fanboy and takes no shame or offense to it. I think some of y'all would actually feel some relief to acknowledge this about yourself.

I actually hate the original game and will most likely not be playing this one but even I can't disagree that the remake looks pretty great compared to the original. If this is the kind of quality Square Enix put into Chrono Trigger I'm sure most people would love to play it.

In general game development is a lot more difficult/complicated than people from the outside seem to give it credit for, so I take issue with calling a clearly polished and well-made game lazy, regardless of if it's a 1:1 remake.

They could've perhaps chosen a lesser price for it like the Crash and Spyro remakes, but 1:1 remakes that basically just end up being prettier versions of the old games have a place in the industry.

If this was $20 I would be a lot less annoyed by its existence

if they had the original on their online service it would feel a lot less bad faith as well

In the Midas River minigame fish now try to hit you from behind as well as the front

Oh and sometimes going to a location on the world map causes some reaction, like going to Tadpole Pond on the world map will have tadpoles pop up and look at you while you're standing there

I really like what they did with the world map. It looks really good and the music is great

The timing on attacks and defense is definitely different and I can feel the streamer's anguish as his old muscle memory fails him on basic action commands. The way he conveys it to the viewers is superb! It's almost as if I was the one playing the game!

Yes, unfortunately.

The way that stat bonuses + weapon attack power worked means that Bowser ends up being not even that good at his niche. With proper bonuses, Geno ends up having a higher attack (his ultimate weapon Star Gun actually gives MORE attack than Bowser's ultimate Drill Claw...for whatever reason). It results to Geno having 250 attack vs. Bowser's 228.

Bowser has higher defense, true, but it's a piddling 5 points....which Geno then beats him in speed and magic attack, which means Geno is better in single target damage AND can wipe enemy formations with an absurdly high magic attack, and has access to the ridiculous Geno Boost, to increase your party's damage and reduce their damage taken.

Honestly, the balance was wonky. Geno should have been a glass cannon and had the lowest defense of the entire party if they were going to make his attack/magic attack and speed so high. Bowser's ultimate weapon needed way more attack power + he should have been more tanky.

Goodbye Geno goes HARD in this version. I am probably going to cry during the ending. xD

The Geno Beam animation looks really cool >_> Also the save point in Forest Maze was moved to right before Bowyer instead of at the start of the maze

Damn, the Rose Town theme is really good! Might be one of my favorite remixes in this game so far

LOL They definitely didn't rebalance the equipment. The Work Pants are still a strictly dominate piece for Geno compared to the Mega Cape in the same shop. Also you can now only buy 1 of each equipment, including the Work Pants

Play on words, but stupid. Mack the Knife was funnier, but now he is a Claymore? Yardiovich was originally a play on the Yari spear but now just blunt force translation.

You can opt not to do it when prompted, but I think once your whole party wipes, the rest of your bench is forced to come out.

I admittedly always thought it was very odd in RPGs how when your frontline gets wiped out, your reserve party members are seemingly just like "welp, guess we'll die"

Like, did they go on vacation or something? What the hell?

This is something I greatly appreciated about the Golden Sun sequels (not the first game since you didn't have reserve members). If your frontline wipes out, it isn't a game over; the reserve members will immediately jump in to take over. I'm sure this isn't the only example of RPG that does this, but it's the example that sticks out in my memory from what I've played.

Alright, I uh watched my streamer play to Marrymore and I'm gonna stop uh watching here >_> I'll wait til the game comes out and play it on my Switch. That was a good uh watching demo. I'm pretty excited for it

Arghhhh me harties.

One thing I'm really happy about is every little easter egg is retained in it from what I've seen. Jumping on the girl's head and spinning around until Mario passes out, the NES Mario cameo, Peach's ???, Link in the bed, standing on the cake and getting yelled at, jumping on the piano and making everyone flinch, getting your picture taken at the wedding, getting your party to yell at you for trying to kidnap Peach, working as a bellhop. There wasn't a single Easter Egg I think it missed so far.

I can't wait to buy this on Friday and play it on my Switch

I assume because they were all supposed to be Snifits, Spookum was some weird localization to differentiate the enemy types. But they wanted to correct "Spookum" to Snifit, and so then they named the other ones "Snifster" probably as a play on Snifit and Booster.

Mack was never a knife. His Japanese name has 'sword' in it.

You can do it that way, but from what it looks like, I *THINK* you can get up there after the fact. Because I watched someone do it after rescuing Mushroom Kingdom and you can get up there by jumping on a wandering Toad's head, but he had already collected it earlier

So I *THINK* it is no longer missable, but don't hold me to that.

However, the streamer I was watching fought Booster and he never got the Amulet, so that and the Feather (from Dodo) might still be missable. You can get bestiaries you missed by talking to a new NPC in Booster Pass and paying him frog coins for it, so it looks like the better option is to complete the minigames and skip the boss fights, unless they do sell the accessories later in the game or something.

So far, it looks like 90% of the Woolsey dialogue is intact during the main gameplay. But a lot of enemies had their names changed, as well as their thoughts. There are a couple new scenes, like Mallow and Geno pop out of Mario and comment on situations a lot more often than they did in the original. Which I like imo cuz Geno didn't have a lot of dialogue in OG >_>

So hype, hopefully it shows up on Friday.

I have a fuck ton of Amazon points cause my credit card is linked to it. Got like $300 to use and figured I would use $60 of it for this.

For stuff I absolutely have to have Day 1 I usually use Best buy curbside pickup. that way I can control when I get it. If I want it at 9:30 in the goddamn morning then that's when I'm gonna get it. With Amazon, even if it arrives day 1 I could be spending most of the day twiddling my thumbs.

$60.... for like a 5 hour game....I want it at like a $40 price.
