I mean, yeah. Kinda hard not to be disappointed if you're trying to get into a physical relationship with a screen.

Just beat it yesterday. Not gunna lie...it was surprisingly anti-climactic. Just felt like BotW DLC.

Holding out hope for Metroid Prime 4.

I got a Switch just to play Breath of the Wild because everyone talked about how great it was, and like... it's kinda meh :( I was hoping for some of that classic Zelda nostalgia but am not getting it. And then one of my Joycons broke after having the stupid thing for like two weeks so that's cool.

It was literally conceptualized as BotW DLC at first, so that's probably why it felt like that.

The thing is, remove the tedious elements like weapons being made of brittle tissue paper and weirdly imbalanced enemy threat levels, and you're left with a decent pretty open world game -- but it still wouldn't feel like a Zelda game, not really, to me at least. The "classic Zelda" that you (and I) remember is structured a certain way and it is a structure that these games do not follow.

I remember Zelda 1 just fine, so this was not a particular departure for me at all.

Zelda IS a disappointment. She's always in trouble and we have to save her and yet her damn name is always in the main title.

So do I, and it felt nothing like that game to me. That game is far smaller in scope (naturally) and relied on obtuseness and obscurity to give the game "length". If you don't have a guide, you're mostly left bombing random walls (with very finite bombs) and burning random trees (for most of the game, only once per screen, meaning you have to leave the screen and come back to try burning another tree, for even more artificial game length) to look for things because you otherwise have no clue where to go. That to me is not reflective of how BOTW/TOTK work at all.
