Which ability would you rather have?

Stand

These are all mostly the same thing of giving you an excuse to have whatever special power the author comes up with. But with a stand you can have a stylish second body that punches at the speed of sound in addition to your cool ability

Hmm. If I dont get to pick, then Stands abd Quirks can possibly be very bad if I get unlucky. For Devil Fruits, theyre usually mediocre at worst, but you cant swim (which I already cant). Nen you can customize to your likely, but youve actually got to train. Might pick Devil Fruit tbh

Devil fruit. I know nothing of the abilities for MHA and JJBA (even tho I knew about JJBA before it blew Up)

nen is probably the least disruptive to ordinary life you also literally get to design your own ability.

quirks would probably be the second least disruptive, unless you get unlucky with the quirk, like Toga or the... what's the term, ectomorphs?

devil fruits remove your ability to swim, so that's a definite no.

getting a stand in the first place can kill you, and it attracts other stand users who try to kill you.

so yeah. nen it is. not even sure what kind of ability I would want, but it's definitely preferable to the other options

we're told that a stand is a manifestation of the user's soul or whatever, but most of the time they seem to have very little to do with the user's personality. some stand users even have stands that are contradictory to their nature

Eh there are some things like White Album that I can't make an argument for how that arises, but overall part 4 and part 5 stands are really good at demonstrating someone's aspirations, temperament, virtue or cowardice.

Nen would be the easiest to use while keeping it a secret I think.

I dont remember much about nen anymore.

So I'm going to go with devil fruits. You can choose the power you want, and while there's far less variety even the worse devil friuts abilitys generally aren't as terrible as most low tier stand or quirk abilitys.

I don't watch that naruto crap

Nen is probably the best pick because it's universally useful and not completely random, outside of specialization. For the others, there's a decent chance you get fucked over by a horrible ability or get a completely useless ability.

JJBA is in my opinion one of the dumbest shows of all time.

HxH is easily my favorite from this list, but Nen is such a complicated system and frankly I lack imagination.

I can't get into OP, and I have a weird sensitivity/allergy to a lot of (raw) fruit. Pretty good chance I'd die trying to eat a Devil Fruit. Or just turn into jelly arms or something.

With a Quirk I don't have to do shit to potentially have a neato X-Men power.

but some of them aren't. Kira, for example, is all about subtlety, and his stand is about as far from that as it's possible to be

Nen seems like its the best, you can a have a bullshit ability like stands or quirks while also getting a generic physical boost

A lot of Devil Fruits are cool but I like being able to swim

My Stand is named "The Saga Begins" and it can write out a strategy to beat any enemy so long as it's given enough time and it has writing implements.

It's unlikely that I myself will be able to defeat the enemy given the Stand doesn't have much in the way of combat capability (probably wouldn't be a humanoid Stand). So long as the information can be communicated to a more powerful companion, I'm in good shape.

Defeating the enemy will still require the skill of the person doing so, but the strategy is there and infallible.

So in a way it's a bit like Thoth.

I guess I'll go with Nen, and have it be incredible luck.

I think Nen is a worse choice than Stand. The kind of Nen you are born with is random, limiting what abilities you could choose. Moreover, no matter kind you have or what cool ability you think of, it doesn't matter if you are born without much power. Virtually all Stands are cool and so whether you get an existing Stand from the manga or something new that matches your soul, you are unlikely to get something shitty. In a world without Stands (so that you don't get subjected to the huge downside of attracting other Stand users to you) you have all kinds of possibilities open up. Just having a stylish, invisible double of yourself that can't be affected by any normal damage would be awesome without the additional power(s).

Stands are usually goofy as fuck so I choose that. Bonus points for being named after musical stuff

There a quite a few horrible Stands, though, and not all of them are intangible, weirdly posing ghost men. Imagine you get the one that traps you in an area unless you sacrifice someone else to it or you turn permanently invisible.

Nen probably. It requires much more training, but you can decide your ability, and the world at large wouldn't even be able to perceive it. Plus, you get increased longevity and youth by using Ten with 100% uptime.

You could probably get away with some pretty crazy stuff with full deniability as a Nen user.

It's repeatedly shown that guns aren't a threat to competent nen users, while the pinnacle of enhancers/emitters can essentially tank rpgs with little to no repercussions.

it's arguably more true of quirks than of stands (assuming the process of attaining a stand doesn't kill you in the first place).

there are several important characters with quirks that drastically alter their body. it's also suggested that people are inclined on a biological level to use their quirk, and the society outlaws -- or at least heavily stigmatizes -- quirk usage outside of certain professions. Toga, as well as Gentle Criminal and La Brava, are probably the best examples of the negative repercussions of this

Stands and Nen both have the huge advantage of being invisible to anybody who doesn't have their own (except for Conjuration constructs, and only if the user wants them to be), and since we live in a world where nobody else has such powers it means you can keep it as secret as you feel like.

Stands and Quirks are both random, so you might get something god-tier or you might get something useless or even actively detrimental. Quirks can also physically alter your body in undesirable ways. So I'll say no to a Quirk. While a Stand is supposed to match your soul, what if it turns out my soul is kinda shit and thus I get a shitty Stand? As awesome as a Stand could potentially be, I think I'll pass.

Devil Fruits take away your ability to swim, which is kinda lame. I was a really good swimmer as a kid, but I haven't actually swam in decades so it's probably not that big a loss. You can sort of pick your own power, but only if you know what each fruit looks like and have a bunch of them in front of you to choose from. A lot of the powers would also be hard to master. If I'm just given the option to eat a random DF, hard no. But if I get to pick one that's both god-tier and and easy to use, like Glint-Glint or Bird-Bird, Model Phoenix (both of which are both powerful and render the user near-invincible in a world where haki and sea prism stone don't exist, and confer flight to avoid the one DF weakness that does still exist on Earth), that'd be hard to turn down.

Nen lets you customize your ability, which is really nice. The downside is that you have to be creative to get the most out of it, and careful about your design choices to not screw yourself over. And your best aptitude might turn out to be a poor match for the powers you want to create. You have to train hard to get the most out of it, but that's really the case with any ability so not really a downside. And unlike HxH characters who have to either find a trainer or figure it out on their own, I can use the manga as a how-to guide. The ability to customize your own power really outweighs the downside. And the only weakness Nen really has is another Nen user who's stronger and/or more skilled, and there aren't any of those IRL.

So if the power I'd get is random within whichever power system I choose, I'm going to go with Nen.

It's actually perfect for Kira though. It erases the bodies to the point where there's nothing left, his bomb can be remotely detonated from a safe distance away and it's seemingly quiet enough to where the average person can't hear it. He can also use shit like air bubbles as a bomb so he can be as discreet as he really wants to be.

That's without considering stuff like Sheer Heart Attack, where Kira doesn't even need to be in the area to use it.
