well, that and the border countries that at any point in time could be said to have been part of the russian empire. for instance, sweden has a long tradition of neutrality. but go back before that long history, and in like 1700 russia and sweden were bitter rivals for the arctic coast of europe. apparently the invasion of ukraine has led them to recalibrate their thinking to the point where neutrality is off the books and aligning with one side is seen as the better option.

obv this is much more directly impactful on the baltics, and poland, but for the next decade or so, it will be difficult for any politician in europe to advocate for a tilt to russia. economic engagement, once thought to be a good thing, now is fraught with peril.

True. But in the countries that were on the butt end of western imperialism(Latin America, Africa, Middle East, and Eastern Asia) the perception is quite different.

Take the economic sanction for instance. They were supposed to have brought Russia to it's knees, but Russia's economy has been showing great resilience, in part because developing countries with large economies such as China, India, Brazil, Mexico, Iran, and Indonesia have chosen to completely ignore the sanctions.

The West no longer carries the geopolitical weight it once did.

but those developments predate the ukraine invasion. in those countries, it is business as usual, except perhaps with a somewhat greater distrust for proffered russian armnaments.

Well, political/moral views aside, pretty sure the Russian reputation for her military capabilities took a huge hit.

Certainly will affect negatively Russia's ability to project power.

The West still throws money at Russia even with sanctions.
Denmark fully stopped importing Russian gas, but Sweden, Norway and Finland had kept buying Russian gas for over $75 million one year after the invasion.
It took Turkey over a year before they stopped exporting stuff to Russia. And God knows how much they spent on Russian oil and gas.

Ukraine has recently turned to use S-200 missiles while they await for more missiles supplied by France.

If Ukraine is dominating, then there's the issue of "how much more do they need?"
But if Ukraine isn't dominating, then we clearly need to send them more resource to rectify that situation.

What are you talking about? Support for Ukraine is drying up, Russia stands strong and is resilient to western sanctions thanks to her stout allies, and the days of the West's influence in the world are fading. My post is very organic and I'm neutral regarding this conflict.

Also there is no panic regarding Sweden joining NATO and the entrances to both the Baltic and Black Sea being controlled by NATO was part of the plan all along.

On one hand, they have to appease Erdogan with some hollow words.

But these very same hollow words will be 100% used by every single far right party in any country in the EU.

So, let's hope that Sweden is officially NATO soon enough before any important elections happen, so they can all say "fuck off" to Erdogan wanting to join the EU.

No one would want Turkey in the EU anyways.

I know! It's not that I have a solution... I just wished it was possible, but I know, that it's probably not going to happen. I know, that not all Russians are supportive of that invasion, and I know that they can't oppose Putin or they risk imprisonment or worse. But I still wished anyone would form a strong opposition and remove this POS, as he not only damage the world, but his own country too.

Yeah that one really cinched it.

Russia is probably going to try and stay in Ukraine as long as they possibly can. Once they leave, Ukraine is going to quickly join NATO and Russia's only realistic target for their next imperial invasion will be Georgia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan. Everywhere else they could invade will be under the NATO umbrella or under China's influence.

EDIT: Forgot Belarus, but they are already a Russian puppet state.

Georgia is pretty far ahead in the "NATO, plz?" line.

Georgia does have access to the black sea and from there the Atlantic so there's no reason they couldn't join NATO.

Because they dont know who rented it or if it transported the explosions used to blow up Nord Stream.
It was rented 3 weeks before the explosion and was seen North of Stockholm, so it is possible that it placed out the explosives then.
American media have earlier pointed out a woman and five men as responsible for the explosion. They are pro-Ukraine with no tie to the Government.
So we got hints that Russian ships acted strange and hints that a non-state wanted to give Russia the finger.

There was already multiple attempts on Putin's life before. There was at least five assassination attempts on Putin prior to the invasion of Ukraine. Some would-be assasins are/were from Russia and some from elsewhere.

I've been suspended from r/AskaRussian like 3 times now.
This is the first time i've been banned from the whole site

All i did was mention that submarine commander that just got shot on his morning jog, and suggest it should be repeated more, in response to someone asking what Russians who are pro-Ukraine should be doing.
Somehow they took that as a threath.

individual russians shouldn't be treated badly if they don't support the invasion and the default shouldn't be to treat russians poorly unless they support putin/the invasion
