The same English VA for the Narrator in Kaiji also did the English Narrator for the Kaiji Spinoff, Mr. Tonegawa: Middle Management Blues, a comedy starring Tonegawa and his struggles in Management. Which I would definitely recommend watching after both seasons of Kaiji. It spoils the first two seasons. The show doesn't have any of the serious stakes of Kaiji, but it is a funny show especially if you enjoy David Wald going ham.

The previous BanG Dream series was, though even that one had at least a little bit of drama mixed in at certain points too. MyGO takes the drama and suffering to a whole other level though, and it does so with incredible writing, fantastic cinematography, and some of the best, most believable, and most relatable characters that I've ever seen in anime. It's incredible, and I can't praise it enough. Hell, even after everything I've said about it in this topic during the season, I still feel like I'm selling short just how good it's been.

Good to know. I'll check that out after HiDive eventually (hopefully) dubs the second season of Kaiji in the future.

Spidey, I've been reading just a little bit of Higanbana every night. I'm definitely not very far, just when Kanamori sees the actual Higanbana doll in the nurse's office and realizes how dumb he's been for not trying to find the button from Marie's clothes.

This is the first Ryukishi thing I've ever read (only saw the Higurashi anime before like a decade ago) but I'm guessing this isn't connected to the rest of his stuff? I like the music and the art has a lot of charm to it, IMO.

Higanbana is not connected to his other works. His works tend to have cameos and expys, but are independent. Though Higurashi does have a direct sequel with Gou and Sotsu. Higurashi and Umineko also have ties together, but it isn't necessary to read one or the other to get the story.

And yes, Higanbana has fantastic music like Higurashi and Umineko.

Just don't bother with the spin off. It's not terrible but it's kind of a letdown.

I second these. I gave it a 9/10, it's a really great series, and I'd love for it to get a sequel someday. Also, Lycoris Recoil is one of the rare anime that is officially approved by Hideo Kojima, to the point where the spin-off light novel got a second printing to print his endorsement on the cover, and he even wore a LycoReco t-shirt to a meeting with Xbox CEO Phil Spencer. You can't make this shit up.

Kojima making a LycoReco video game would definitely make up for no season 2 of the anime IMO.

I'll check it out. I'm taking a vacation in September once it cools down so I'll need some anime to watch.

Been watching Angolmois: Record of Mongol Invasion. It's about the Mongol invasion of Japan, specifically about the island of Tsushima. It's basically Ghost of Tsushima but a little more period-accurate.

It's been pretty entertaining so far (not amazing), but I'm a sucker for anything based on history, which has always been one of my favorite things. It also has a pretty good OP and ED.

Two thoughts:

1. Kaiji is great as a character, but the two guys he teams up on the cruise ship are annoying

2. Crunchyroll redubbed Kaguya-sama S3 with the OG VA for shirogane, and while that's cool overall, I do wish they'd put that time/ effort into dubbing the movie instead

Having Aaron Dismuke come back from his vocal rest and re-dub Shirogane's lines was the plan all along, and I'd guess they wanted to get that done before the movie for consistency's sake.

Until you realize the Kamiya literally traced other peoples' work for the light novels. So cloning Jojo facial expressions and artistic styles just seem par for the course.

Jeez, I thought Sacrificial Princess was supposed to be a romance anime, not a shonen anime... I didn't expect it to go this hard and bloody for a fight scene.

I couldn't have asked for a better birthday present than to see this episode of MyGO and this incredible payoff to the journey of these five lost girls. It was beautiful, and I loved every minute of it. Anyone who isn't watching BanG Dream It's MyGO, please go watch it because it's been an amazing story.

Dark Gathering was wonderfully brutal this week. And it looks like we are heading towards the End of Disc 1 boss.

That Dark Gathering show looks pretty cool, I'll check it out tonight.

Also, been reading a little bit of Higanbana every weekend or so. I'm on the third story about the drama club "princess". It's pretty alright so far, I like the atmosphere. I'm guessing there are Umineko references ("Seacats", the play being about a witch) in this, I haven't read it but I know a little about it. I'm guessing that every story is going to be more or less Higanbana fucking with the main character.

Finished the first season of Kaiji. I was not expecting it to end like that. Now begins the long wait for Sentai/HiDive to eventually (hopefully) dub the second season, but from what I watched so far, I did like it a lot. I'd give it an 8.5/10.

Now time for me to pick Precure Splash Star back up after stopping at the halfway point like a month ago.

Third season of Kaiji would be really difficult to adapt because the first game they play is Mahjong. It's a mega simplified Mahjong, but despite knowing the rules myself, I found it pretty hard to figure out their points or even their waits. It's written so that even if you don't know the rules, the mind games alone are as usual, ultra top tier. Though having read the arc twice, second time knowing the rules first time not, Kaiji trembling at realizing something that massively boost his points at the explain-it-all section was pretty delicious lul, and more impactful the second time around because he doesn't know he got the point boost til after the big reveal.

However, most Kaiji fans wish that they one day at least adapt One Poker, the best arc by a margin. But adapting it would mean you need to adapt the previous 2 games due to them being connected in terms of characters.

If I watched Saki I can watch Mahjong Kaiji. But I wonder why they went with a Mahjong arc when Akagi already exists?

Akagi played actual Mahjong with a slight rule twist. Kaiji played what is essentially Yugioh Mahjong, where they skip all the build up bullshit and both of them work with Riichis, or near completed hands (usually you'd discard and set up til you get a good build every single round).

The author just really likes Mahjong in general. We're lucky he only stuck to a single arc, but the twist at the end and Kaiji's cookin' is probably one of the best in the series

FLCL Grunge airs tonight on toonami. Not feeling the art style, but I doubt anything could be worse than FLCL Progressive.

I was just thinking about how I never watched those, because I thought they would be an affront to god. Then I just simply forgot they existed and nobody ever said a damn word about them ever again.
Just like Grunge, this is the first I've heard of it in my life and I'll probably never hear of it again unless they jump the shark with frickin laser beams attached to their heads.
