Yes people need to have some self-awareness and be considerate to others when shopping. The isle doesn't belong to you. But the inherent issue is stores like Walmart be making the isles small as fuck.

While I've seen people carefully examining every loaf of bread in a store for over 30 minutes(literally) like they were picking medical plans for their families, they aren't necessarily bothering anyone. The people that plug up the middle of the aisle though, or stand with a cart at an intersection tilted at an angle to block as much space as possible... I have to resist the urge to go "destruction derby" with my own cart.

Whenever they don't have an item I want in stock, I stare at the general area. Sometimes there's another item stocked in its usual place, I keep looking a few seconds longer, something must have changed. Scratch head. Feel heat. Move a few feet back and around looking for said item in panic. It's not there. Oh no. Move on. But it's why I came here....

You guys should try going grocery shopping in Japan. People are so locked in their own heads. They will just walk into you. Or you walk towards them, you make eye contact, and they will not move an inch until the very last second, like they WANT to bump into you. Then line only moves in one direction at the meat section, yet there is no way to see where the line actually begins or ends. There is always a grandma buying a box of some mystery item that takes forever for the cashier to figure out how to let it out of the store. Old men take up the aisle. You want to go ahead. You say excuse me (in japanese of course), they wont move. Their wife will move, but they wont. Every. Single. Time. Ive actually asked about this, and was just told that old men here think they are kings and dont need to listen to anyone.

So instead of rude slobs like in the US, we have unaware robots who arent able to comprehend the life around them

I never go to Costco unless I am just looking to kill a few hours. I never buy anything.. just load a few random things into a shopping cart, leave it sideways in an aisle to obstruct it, and then head back out for another cart to repeat the process.

The look on peoples faces when they come to an aisle blocked by carts is worth it every time.

The actual shopping, my encounters have been mostly fine. The checkout seems to be where I get hit. The checkout lane is only wide enough for a shopping cart. I've sat there minutes because someone isn't aware enough to move their cart out of the checkout lane while they bag their stuff.

i cant help it. I just go on autopilot when im at the grocery store. i barely remember even entering and exiting from it

big cities are slightly better about this but whenever i go back to my small town to visit folks everybody moves so fucking slowly it makes me insane. everywhere you go too, its like the entire pace is different....i go to a bank and the tellers are moving in slow motion

Wandering and finding weird stuff is amusing. One can definitely do so without being an obstruction. Grocery stores are prime areas for thoughtless individuals to broadcast it

Ugh this is why I've mostly started doing pick up orders. Last time I went in was a nightmare. This dude was in the spice aisle with 2 carts taking up most of the space in front of the spices and he's just standing there looking. Took forever just to grab generic pepper. Then after that this lady in the meat section took her sweet tike and then decided to pack her cart full of all the big packs of chicken breasts and legs. Like the hell. Who does that? Then right after that a lady is in the freezer looking for ice cream and she's holding the door open while she's looking. By the tike she found what she wanted she had had the door open for 15 minutes.

Worked at a grocery store for fifteen years and let me tell you, the amount of pent up rage I went home with each day because of people with the self awareness of a particularly dim brick was staggering.

The most egregious example I can remember was an old guy with his cart diagonally against one side of the aisle whilst reaching for something on the other side, preventing anyone from getting past.

Just the simple act of keeping your cart towards the side of the aisle so people can get by while you are deciding is all I ask, but I can never get it. Yes I can ask for them to move but also why can't people have just the slightest amount of consideration for others?

Even worse: Leaving the cart unattended in the center of the aisle.

I especially hate it when people decide to start having long conversations and block the whole aisle or walk way. They even see you trying to get past and make no effort whatsoever to move. Like it's fine if you wanna chat but move out the fuckin way.

Stores know this, which is exactly why everything is regularly moved around - except maybe the freezers, which are built into the building itself.

Someone wandering around trying to figure out where the hell the toilet paper is this week, is more likely to buy whatever's where the toilet paper was last week, and random things in between.
