Her voice acting sucks. Yes, the harassment is terrible and anyone who supports it should just go to a different planet, but...why's she pivoting to race? And she does realize Ada is sexualized as hell, right? She has breast and ass physics.

Also, Ada has been portrayed by Asian VAs many times, all in Japanese.

That said, I feel kinda mixed about her performance. Oddly enough her acting in the video calls actually seem fine, it's the other parts where I'm kinda meh on.

I mean, she kind of is. Definitely one of the most popular ones. There's a reason that out of all the random side characters the games have had, Ada's one of the few (the only?) to make a comeback multiple times.

The voice was bad, but it's ultimately not a big deal as it has very little impact on the quality of the game. And it certainly doesn't warrant harassing the VA with racist and sexist remarks.

I feel like Ada's character arc, such as it is, is about her becoming more kind.

But yeah, that one was a little weird.

I have not heard her Ada in action. So I have no idea if her acting is good or not. But people shouldn't get racist even if she did a bad job.

Ada as a whole is a lot less stylized in the remake. The boring VO just kinda goes with the new boring character...

Some of the takes I've seen are definitely exaggerations. But she kinda stands out amongst everyone else regardless, and not in a good way.

To add to this...why the fuck are you contacting a performer to shit on their performance at all? Is it that important to you that said performer knows exactly what you think of their performance?

Mind you, it's not emotionless. Javier Bardem in No Country For Old Men is an emotionless performance. Patrick Bateman is an emotionless performance. It's not wooden, he's not reading lines. If you're going for that style, that detached, intense acting, you shouldn't sound like you're reading lines off the paper.

Like, hell, Sandy Cahill's acting in the original RE4 was the femme fatale played up as a B-movie style character, but you can say a million things about her way of playing Ada...no one is saying 'oh, she's wooden.' Or 'oh, she sounds like she's reading her lines off a script'. You can tell what she's going for, what type of character she is, just by listening.

According to Lily Gao, she's playing this kind, just, intelligent, and funny character. Yet everyone is saying she's some like...subdued secret emotionless character.

Even the voice actor disagrees with that. It's just a terrible performance.

Unironically the worst part of RE4 was Ada's performance. Otherwise the game is aces all around.

Why not say stuff that makes sense to defend herself, then? "I was acting like that to portray Ada as detached" is a lot more true to how the character sounds than "SHE'S KIND AND FUNNY!"

It's not really a case of up in arms. I just think she's a shit voice actor. Her 1 minute part in Welcome To Racoon City was also terrible. The game is still one of the best ever made, easily.

It's typical mob mentality bs. Weirdos lumping in because it's the "cool" thing to do with no sense of self awareness. Sprinkle in a little racism for shits and giggles.

That said, it wasn't a good performance and had nothing to do with being more sexual. It could just be bad directing, but the character's delivery felt stilted.

Admittedly, imo, Saddler and Salazar suffer from this as well.

The voice acting was bad but not hate worthy, harassing her so bad is scummy af but bringing in race to rally white knights is also kinda scummy.

The voice acting being criticized doesn't surprise me, because it was lacking both by itself and in comparison to the others in the cast Understandable because it's her first ever VO role but it should have gone to someone with more training, simple really.

Nothing justifies internet harassment however, and I could tell Gao got racist remarks without even looking it up.
