That shit should be illegal. Seriously. I can understand not having songs they don't have the license to in later rereleases and maybe even disabling then in online play but removing it sounds sus as fuck to me.

Didn't we basically buy the the right to play those songs as part of the game when we bought it? They're taking back possession of something we purchased. People would be up in arms if they took away our mp3 downloads for "rights issues". What if they decide certain arts assets or levels need to be removed? How much of what we already bought are they allowed to remove? It's not likely of course but imagine if they just deleted the whole game from your hard drive. Apparently that's "legal"?!

I seriously think we could consider a class action lawsuit here.

Yeah but its pretty scummy to force an update on someone whos had the game for years that ends up removing content.

It just goes by licensing
they have to remove or else you wouldn't be able to play it without a crack

There's a disclaimer basically for every game ever sold saying that the game is being lent over to you. And that they have the rights to take the game away from you anytime they feel the need.

Basically the gaming industry is one big rental store. However rent is a one time fee, out side of subscription games. And they can take that item away from you anytime.

Rockstar didn't even bother to keep the rights to In the City for the digital releases of The Warriors, and that was basically the theme song of the movie.

Is it still possible to rip songs from a CD and put them on a pc, playstation or xbox and then add them to a custom radio station in GTA?

I remember being able to do that in GTA 3 on original xbox

Licensing agreements is where one shitty corporate taken over industry meets another shitty corporate taken over industry. And no matter the result the consumer suffers.

Take them to court then if you feel so strongly about the issue.

Makes me think of how many TV shows that had popular songs in them couldn't be sold as DVDs without the music being changed or removed. Shows like Miami Vice were originally that way until the rights were settled and the music was allowed back in. Wasn't Malcolm In The Middle in basically limbo for a long long time because of the music?

If music companies can make agreements with the entertainment industry, why can't they do that with the game industry? Speaking of GTA, Take Two has more money than god at this point. They can shell out a few bucks equivalent to change under the couch cushions to buy the rights back.

yeah this is why i never bought gta sa on steam. have a disc version fortunately

but honestly its easy to find the pre-music removal versions online anyways. i guess mods can help too i didnt know about them till now

The recording industry is the most slimy industry there is. And most times it is not the artist that are getting the money from shit like this .
