Yeah I'm doing the skirmish on the map with the ballista. This map has waaay too many enemies swarming you and they put your units in an area where you get flanked on all sides. On hard? No thanks. This is just cheap

If anyone could give me tips on what the hell I'm supposed to do in Chapter 24 (on Hard), that would just be swell.

When does it stop being a waste to kill enemies with Vander? I'm doing chapter 3 right now and he gets nothing.

It's always a waste, he's a trash tier unit and worst Jegan in the series. If you're on Maddening he may be useful but besides chapter 5 scenarios I can't say you should be using him at all once you have the chance to bench him.

The one where you face past Alear with the avalanches.

Ah, I had just moved units to the middle lane where the boss was after I was done making sure all the Dragons and items were dealt with/acquired. I believe there were also ballistae in all lanes which I probably got rid of with whoever had Sigurd on. Also consider using Lyn's Astra Storm to snipe one of the problematic units if no one can make any progress uphill. I had a dumb early turn where I didn't realize they had to be in front of the rocks even though the tutorial made it obvious, so that was fun.

The tool tip suggests standing behind the rocks but you actually want to stand in front of the rocks and accept the full avalanche tits first. The rock stops your movement when you collide with it on the way back.

As for the ballistas, I used shield gambit + falling star but that needs the dlc.

99% of the problems in this game can be solved by Tiki or Edelgard.

And if you aren't using DLC, there's always Corrin to make those ice things since the snow won't knock you past those and the enemies won't attack them if you're closer.

It's never a waste to kill enemies with the unit that can do it most conveniently. People reeeaaalllyy overrate how important exp management is in Fire Emblem, it basically only matters if you're LTCing, you're never going to suffer because you used Vander to kill stuff. Ignoring him is just making the early game a bit less smooth in exchange for not affecting the rest of the game in any way. This is extra true in Engage where you get strong units handed to you periodically for most of the game.

I mean, you can use a skirmish to make up any missed exp So, if he helps, might as well use him But you dont have to If you use him to make sure you dont die, that could work. And if you need more exp, a skirmish could help with that, so Plus, like the other poster mentioned, they just keep giving you pretty good characters later on Chances are you may not even use some of the older ones unless you spent a lot to make them good, or you want to Or if its Yunaka

Paralogue's don't scale do they? I don't plan on buying the season pass anytime soon but I'm wondering if Tiki's paralogue will be at whatever level it is despite my save being at the end, or if it'll scale up a bunch.

I guess I should start a playthrough for if/when I buy the season pass.

The dlc ones do but the base game ones don't scale

I never played fire emblem before awakening. So I have ongoing playthroughs of a bunch of the older ones going on two maybe three years now lmao. Its very hard playing with permadeath. Path of Radiance kept kicking my ass earlier

Path of Radiance definitely starts hard if you're not used to the series. It was my first and one early map in particular is basically the litmus test of if you can make it through the game. If you don't give up and figure out what works with what you have, you'll be able to get through anything.

Yeah Im on I think chapter 11, where you have to get to the ship in town and also recruit Zihark in the process. I kept getting Marcia killed until the third time I was almost home free, and then the black knight popped out of a house and immediately killed Marcia because I left her alone where I thought she was safe. Trial and error.

The axe wielding mounted unit from the previous chapter should help a lot, you want Marcia going towards the goal with Ike. That's the general strategy at least.

Chapter 11 is probably one of the harder ones in Path of Radiance, you probably don't have anyone but Titania that is nigh-invincible yet and she's not quite as game breaking as she was earlier, and if you're sending people north or south then you don't have a ton of units for how much of a mess the middle path can become. And the Burger King ambush can be a problem, obviously.

Yeah the burger king really exists there to make you have to go faster than you may be comfortable with. But at least the next 2 chapters give you some of the best darn units in the game.

Funny enough I benched Titania for this map for that same axe knight and he and Boyd were whooping ass against all the lancers lol. My strategy was sending people through all three routes and did pretty well. Lethe was also doing great.

Now, if you've played through before Boyd is fine. But this is the point where you really should be ready bench him forever. His brother Oscar is fine, a reliable unit with great growths and probably the best A tier support for Ike because of how the element system works. The other two are just... It's not fair to say they're traps but they're pretty bottom tier for the effort and resources they require.

But yeah, use Titania. She's not a crutch when the levels for another chapter or two assume you are using her.

I'm going through all of the Emblem paralogues that I have unlocked... god, the map for Sigurd's paralogue is gigantic.

I think I made an oopsie. I bought the LDC under the impression that Tiki would be a standalone playable character. But if Im not mistaken, shes just another ring buddy?

Yeah just a ring buddy. We MIGHT be getting new units eventually but for now we know there are 5 new ring buddies in the season pass

Yeah I just really like Mia. Ill probably reload my save before the chapter starts when I promoted her and either use it on someone else or save it

Honestly, Boyd is perfectly fine, and there's nothing wrong with using him all game long as long as he's keeping up. He can get screwed with bad luck, but he can easily be a powerhouse.

PoR is honestly one of the most balanced games in the entire series. The worst units are either just kind of characters who start weak and are tricky to train up (IE, Rolf) or ones who join really late and generally lose out to earlier units if trained up (IE, Bastian & Lucia).

The entire cast is perfectly usable, though, and the worst units in the game are far from being as bad as the worst units in other games.

People say Etie is bad but she's been killing it for me

If you compare to Thracia chapter 22 without staff spam sure because that map is hell, but with staffs the only difficulty is managing fatigue in 21x so you can still get all the stuff you want while bypassing the entire map. Thracia's second half completely breaks the moment you're not playing a self-imposed challenge that ignores all the silly tools it gives you.

Sigurd YOLO-ing his way across the drawbridge with his 13 movement into the range of my mages and archers so I don't have to deal with his two dozen threatening-looking reinforcement units be like:

Not that he's good at it and since Astrid joins like 3 chapters later and has double exp as a skill and is mounted and has better growths uh. >.>
