But it definitely is more enjoyable when everyone in the chat has apple IMO. I mean, that's why the whole green bubble thing isn't really talked about in Europe, when I lived over there everyone just used Whatsapp or something else anyway. Android even lets you adjust input modes to make communication between iPhone and Android more compatible.
