Did the police shoot directly at her? Or was she killed because the dad started a shootout with the police with his daughter in the car. And that daughter got killed in the crossfire.

Sounds like the kidnapper was shooting at the cops who were returning fire. The girl got out of the car she was in and started running at the cops when she got caught in crossfire.

Don't know if I can chalk this one up to police stupidity/negligence. Just a really unfortunate situation.

Looks like it was probably her dad(?) who killed her mom and then probably didn't intend to let her live either. It's difficult for me to tell at this point how culpable the police are.

well the police are the ones who killed her

it doesn't matter what the dad was planning to do.

I haven't killed that many people, but generally I've never thought it's a terribly good idea to dress the person I'm planning to kill in tactical gear and go for a drive with them fully conscious and able to run away. It sounds more like he was hoping to get away with her and prepared to be shot at as they ran.

Can't argue that. It is bullshit that that is what likely will happen too, because something went wrong here and no one is going to want to look at this as a learning exercise to do better if they're just going to sweep it under the rug as "innocent people get murdered by cops because bad people do bad things."

Which is fair, the dad is responsible for creating the situation; doesn't excuse shitty situational awareness and handling of the situation.

they dont even train modern police to be good marksmen and given the attitudes of modern police I dont trust for a second that it was even accidental. Modern police dont shoot when they need to, they shoot whenever they see an opportunity to justify getting away with it. They shot her because they could.

That doesnt make sense. I feel any narcissistic cop would choose the acclaim of being a saviour as opposed to just gunning down some 15 year old.

They will choose their own life over everything else, and that could mean taking out the enemy as soon as possible. To that end I don't think the child being in the crossfire was a factor for them, since that's been shown to be the case many times before.

Depends on who actually shot her. Police shouldn't be shooting at all if a civilian is in the line of fire. But as mentioned above..

They charged the two cops that killed the baby in the shootout in Ontario last year

Yeah, but that's in Canada. Up here, it's not as socially acceptable for police to shoot people that aren't Native as it is down south.

lol... what the fuck? The police didnt fuck up because a hostage was running at them and someone else was shooting them so they fired, in a way so poorly done, they murdered the fucking hostage, but its not their fault?

Yeah the trial of the officer that killed Sammy Yatim was something else, and the judges reasoning was similar to my own contemporary thoughts after the event happened, the officer continued to fire after the fatal shot had been fired, and was therefore liable for the death.

theyre bullies, most of them genuinely hate the people that they are supposed to serve and protect

they love their weapons and they WANT to use them to hurt and kill, police culture is disgustingly violent and sadistic, its why they all love the punisher so much

Some genuinely want to do good, keep their head down and try not to let too much of the rot infect them.

The history of policing has been arcing toward a more equitable institution, it takes everyday work to effect the change needed. I have many criticisms on how police operate and act, but I have used those to effect change here at home; the OPP are not the same as they were, 30, 20, or even 10 years ago. It's slow and frustrating, but we all have to take responsibility for the faith in institutions that makes up our society.

If we cannot keep faith in societal institutions, bad as some are, the system collapses. It takes more energy to build than it does to burn.

Colossal flaw in all of this is that the institution that we're supposed to have faith in is also policing itself. Often dishonestly if we're being real here.

The "good" guys don't get to be good and stay on the job or alive in a lot of cases.

There cant be trust without accountability. As long as qualified immunity is in place, then US law enforcement are oppressors and a threat to the American people

Police help the public by shooting at them so our problems don't become their problems.
