I don't think Iron Men were tracked in the early days, not sure though.

Now almost my entire top ten characters for the series have won (and in Laguna's case, at least he's been to the finals).

Been on a call since finals ended and I've expected to see some posts from certain users I haven't seen yet, I wonder if they're still coming. But anyways.

Congrats to VI and the Ramza crew for getting the win, "Yes, rich Ramza!" finally achieved! As I mentioned in Day 98 topic, this was what I thought would be the 2nd best final at the time and looks like it played out nicely with strong activity and save totals again. It's a good win but damn if it isn't bittersweet. That's it for Tactics character runs now, right? or is it Wiegraf time???

Also out 10x-ing the Aerith crew 39-30, if there's one thing I noticed since I came back the Ramza team was dedicated, fast saving, multi-trading, solid. It was a well-earned win.

That being said, definitely heartbreaking for me and I'm sure others, since it really felt like it could've gone the other way. Ramza is a great winner but he still felt to me like a character for whom a finals loss is still a "win", a great run that's a prize in itself, while Aerith could overcome last year's narrow defeat and not suffer again. I knew it'd be close despite what anyone else was musing, but stating the obvious here for anyone paying attention, I never would've expected the number of saving flips that occurred between Day 98 and the Finals.

I just can't recall the extent of anywhere near that in the 5 SMFFFC finals I've participated in thus far, the number of dedicated Aerith savers & traders who went heavy for Ramza in the finals was just such a dagger in the heart. I can't recall a block of Delita savers saving Squall, or Kefka savers saving Aerith last year. Or even Edward savers saving Lightning though maybe that's not the best analogy... maybe it happened but I just didn't realize it or wasn't paying attention. But with a 54 save loss, 3 of those users flipping could've given her the win, it's just a really tough pill to swallow. All I can hope is we're hopefully all back on the same team for the journey next year, through Day 98 and the finals.

Anyways, I want to thank a bunch of Aerith savers but I'll save that for a different post. Definitely trending back to "taking a game way too seriously" mode here, even if I only participated for like 10 days, it's like riding a bike - I can feel the weight of the 3+ months that TotallyNotMI and others put into carrying her to this point only to fall short, again.

Really I just hope we can run it back next year, I hope we can bring in more people to the cause - play the original, play the remake, she really is a wonderful character!! "Third time's the charm" run begins tonight I guess.

Oh also, I don't have any "preference ranking" stats since I wasn't around to do that properly but I've got some other contest-related stats I'll probably drop in here in the next day or two.

Aerith becoming the new Terra is an improvement over the old Terra

The Cinderella Story was finally achieved.

Gonna give special shoutouts to Xuxon (Who I assume likes this a lot better than the Delita run a few years back), redrocket/JC/golden (who helped big time in the middle of the contest, and made me realize a run was possible) and Team Dad aka War/gravy (fun run let's work together again sometime) for helping big time with this run. And everyone else who joined in, especially those who have done so in other big Tactics runs in the past couple of years.

Going to be honest, I wasn't expecting this run to happen. I expected Ramza out really early, even if I was saving him once a round and sometimes trading for him. Very glad I got to see it play out. And it's really cool.

Apologies to Aerith mains. If it was anyone else in the top 5 I'm probably voting for her in the finals. She just happened to be up against the GOAT.

And I disagree with what FFD said in the last topic, Ramza accomplishing what Delita could not over insurmountable odds is perhaps the most flavorful victory to exist. And I say this when Delita is a close second, largely as he is a great foil for Ramza (even if he has better lines, I will admit).

It feels weird to finally have my favorite final fantasy character achieve victory, and I don't even really know what's next. Will say that I plan on playing a little less forceful, no trading until top twenty, and maybe even missing the first page in a round once in a while. I probably won't quit, I just enjoy talking shop about Final Fantasy too much.

I guess if Algus or Wiegraf make it top 3 next year you all can say I have voodoo witchcraft. But I'm kinda skeptical about pushing either next year. I'd maybe run back Delita, that was fun.

Ah that post makes me feel so much better about all this, like having a bowl of hot chowder on a cold winter's day... legit happy for you, and yeah I remember Ramza was one of Xuxon's favourites too, though between the Kefka win last year and Ramza this year, I think Xuxon needs to go into the swordz wilderness, lol

Hmmm since Ramza won, maybe I'll add on an FFT speedrun w/ JP Scroll abuse onto the "SMFFFC Winners Game Replays" list. Actually might even jump the queue over XIII trilogy replay (so much) or FF6 replay (still not sure what version to play or if I can access that version!)

I didn't end up helping Ramza too much this year but I'm still super happy to see him get a win.

I honestly thought Aerith had this in the bag and that letting the bot pick my saves wouldn't matter. In any case, I'm glad my coinflip didn't end up deciding things. Technically I should've backed Ramza anyway. I've played a bit of FFT and none of FF7.

From the looks of it, I've made 27 Tactics saves and 20 of them have been in finals. Obviously there are a bunch of missing rounds and this only goes four years back, but still.

yeah XXII I only logged like up to Day 50 and XXIII I only logged starting from Day 61, which I think is when I made the userscript that makes logging easier

... maybe I'll make an equivallent for logging saves off of lfaqs at some point but oh boy that's a lot of rounds to catch up on

Same. I initially wanted to back him this year and now I feel kinda bad not committing to him earlier. But hey, it worked out. Big props to everyone keeping him around while my focus was diverted.

Don't forget Squall! His win may have felt like more of a consolation prize at the time after a heartbreaking Kefka exit that year, but he's also one of my favorites and joining the Squall push late in in the game was a pretty regular thing for me.

Not really sure what else to say. Kefka was a project 13 years in the making. Ramza just sort of... happened. Was a lot of fun and didn't stress too much like I have in the past.

I probably like Ramza a lot if I actually finish FFT, so good stuff.

Hey I'll take whatever I can get for whatever reason I can get it. I'm likely back to maining Jessie in the earlier rounds again next year so hopefully I can carry her with a little help of the other Jessie savers if they're around.

To be fair I wasnt really fully commiting early either

told myself if Im ever gonna get the run off the ground its gonna have to be without doing so much heavy lifting early so he gets some traction and people sticking and I dont burn out

It's weird because a piece of Ramza's run was picking up the Dad support, which gave him time to pick up Emet-Selch's support.

With Ramza out, VI probably focuses more on the Dads, so my guess is that Dad finishes a couple spots higher, possibly even top ten, as the big change, instead of FFT hitting a final, and one of his other high priorities picks up me and gravy when Dad drops.

Imagine what it'd feel like to win a save my...

It's just that for the entire contest you had this "I only save FFVII" "Trade FFVII for FFVII" gimmick
So when someone keeps a track of the finals and see Aerith falling behind, a thought of "Well, MWC didn't vote yet and he will obviously save Aerith" comes to mind.

But then you saved Ramza and it was pretty much a "wait, what the fuck?" moment

Thats fine. But I've made it clear since XIX I wanted Ramza to win one. Since Squall won my only non VII character I wanted to win for someone was Ramza. Now with both of them, the only characters I have left I want to win it are VII, unless someone miracles a Moogle to a final somehow. Cause none of my XV Bros are ever going anywhere on this board. :(

Which reminds me, Ulti, I'd love to see what we could do with Seph and VII next year. I know you are wanting to see what he can do.
