13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim - -[PROTEASE]-
Amplitude (PS4) - Supraspatial

Certainly a day. Misty Er-A is...a decent thing if anything to lose to, I guess. Aside from one part that's kinda weird. Some parts in prime were better than others, but I don't like classical. And most just doesn't interest me. Protease also didn't interest me for most of it honestly, but it had some cool parts and didnt drag on as much lol

I'll be honest a lot of that writeup came off as negative, so I'll at least say it's super cool to see a couple people really loving Supraspatial apparently! I was sorta blown away when I first went through the Amplitude soundtrack on a whim, and it's cool to see others being thankful to hear it as well.

the first match is close in my head but I realized I had significantly more patience for prime today than I did for protease; the second match is also close in that I have somewhat mixed feelings about both tracks and specific high points/low points in each track that I feel when listening to them

There are parts of Prime I liked quite a bit. I'm sure you could cut it up and make a 5 minute song that I'd consider a good matchup for Protease, which I'm not even that into. It's just that those parts are surrounded by too much nonsense.

Misty Era is very cool and good though.

protease is like isoleucine and deoxyribose had a worse baby but the baby is still very cool i love the single voice deoxyribose motif IRONICALLY the thing i love most in prime is also the motif!!! or rather the infant motif coming back at the end of the life/song. feel bad after all this effort getting prime in that i still def prefer protease lol but i think on certain days this could be swapped. but not todaty

match 2 i like both songs today WAY more than i did before wtf

From Toxtricity:
prime #4507 (echochrome ii)
Supraspatial (Amplitude PS4)

and then you immediately see the CHAOS of this broken universe (protease) Now that you have experienced the DESTRUCTION OF REALITY with chibi robo staff roll, whats next? Chaos? A formidable foe? Yeah, something pretty intense is going on in this destroyed universe that chibi robo left behind for you to be inside of. BE CAREFUL

and then you listen to prime 4507 for 1 hour which only adds to the chaos; and it's 1 hour so you can't say that the previous song being loud made you think the song was too quiet man this cute start is such a contrast. Unfortunately for me, potentially surprisingly??:? This match is very close, meaning...i am going to have to listen back and forth to these two tracks a lot to fully decide, which, given the length of one of them, is not an easy task. See you around eventually!!! On this particular listen, im noticing how so much of this track feels a lot like cuter pmd2 tracks, which is making me think hideki sakamotos contribution to that game was more prominent than i thought (even though i knew about other music he did that soundded like pmd like the Holy Invasion of Privacy, Badman! What Did I Do to Deserve This? series. I always suspected hideki sakamoto only did a handful of tracks while keisuke ito did most. My guess now is that the cuter pmd2 songs are very very likely hideki sakamoto now though, like the funny ones). My favorite parts of this are the parts that are sorta odd time-y like the section around 33:03-33:33 or 39:30. I just really love this guys composition style. I just ralized some of the melody lines in this song are the same as recurring themes in starbound by shnabubula hahaha. Man i did NOT think i could be voting this way but i have to give it to echo chrome

Misty era is so funny to me and it is making me laugh as i am listening to it while i am eating breakfast which is making it hard to eat. I know it is supposed to be SERIOUS AND EPIC (Which i like about it) but for some reason i think it is really funnyits hard to describe. Some of its the contrast of the voices style to the music itself. Interesting style of this

Supraspatial was one of the most standout things to me during noms. I love how many separate ways it gives you to break down the rhythms inside of the same space of time. Insane sound design...and some parts are surprisingly normal and their contrast feels very powerful against the crazier and harder-to-follow sections. Just an amazingly balanced piece and honestly probably one of my favorite tracks in the entire contest when i think about it

-[PROTEASE]- [7.4]
prime #4507 [7.7]

I was hoping to like this 13 Sentinels song more given my record with a few of them at this point, but I just don't really feel the same level of excitement as I've felt before. The electric guitar and some of the synths feel nice, but I'm not really grabbed by the melody at this point in time, I think.

prime #4507 is an interesting song for me. Overall, I want to say it's a pretty neat experience, but there's one major problem I have with it: its length. I'm not opposed to symphonies or concerts --very far from the truth, in fact -- but I think it really says something when I say that I can easily relisten to the first 8 or so minutes of the whole piece and really like it, but then I can't really remember much of the entire 75-minute performance, save for a few spots in the middle (really, it's when the motif introduced in the beginning shows up now and again) as well as the ending for the song. It really sucks that I feel this way too, because the beginning is super strong performance-wise and I will easily replay it, but I also know that if the whole song was somehow condensed into a solid 15-20 minutes of song instead I would probably be able to recall more of the melody at will and remember that I was impressed by the song. That said, it'll get my vote this round, because those lovely 8 minutes at the start have certainly charmed me and made me want more.

Misty Er'a [8]
Supraspatial [7.5]

I find the vocals in Misty Er'a really soothing, and the instruments that back them up sound good too. I think the weakest part could be the kid-like voices near the end, but they thankfully don't distract much from the rest of the song so it overall still sounds pretty good.

Supraspatial feels like it has some interesting ideas behind its sound, but it does seem to be rather busy at the same time. I adore when songs feel "weird/vibey" with its use of synths, so it's certainly doing something right for me at least.

13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim - -[PROTEASE]-
DJMAX RESPECT V - Misty Er'a

MATCH 1

Protease is pretty solid. I'd say it's a step above Deoxyribose, but still beaten out by Isoleucine. In other words, it's good but not great like some of the other 13 Sentinels songs I've heard through this contest.

prime #4507 isn't bad either. It doesn't really have much that stands out to me though. It's a lot of nice, classical sounding parts, none of which are especially better than the others. Protease is more of a standout song here, so it gets my vote.

MATCH 2

Misty Er'a is pretty nice with its vocals, and the other instruments work decently well in combination.

Supraspatial has a cool funky melody going on, but I feel like it gets drowned out by all the distortion effects going on in the song.

-[PROTEASE]-
Supraspatial

Sonic Colors - Terminal Velocity (Act 1) 6.5 Sonic music lays out a funky groove full of blinding instruments. It hits you hard with the trumpets while keeping a cool baseline humming. Sure it's nice, but there's no main hook that keeps me interested.

Xenoblade Chronicles X - Wir fliegen 8.5 One of my favorite XBX tracks. The restrained starting melody of guitar and simple drums looms and waits until the blast off of the "zombie" chorus. It's like breaking off the chains and unleashing ones free self. I like the electric guitars halfway through with their deep riffs, it reminds me of new soleanna from Sonic 06, which is one of my favorite songs. Then the chorus picks up again in the second half with more frenzy and complexity. It's just a song with a great journey and fun emotions via the vocals and varied energy.

Secret of Mana (2018) - Prophecy 5.5 I enjoy how the core mystical magic motif persists throughout the song, no matter how many dire metal layers get added on top. It's a whole feast of a layered sound experience.

Risk of Rain 2: Survivors of the Void - The Face of the Deep 4 Oh is this new 2022 music from Chris? Neat stuff! I don't particularily like this song. I usually enjoy the cooler, slow burns from Risk of Rain. While the intensive, frequent chaos songs have a place, they just sound at odds with the main motifs Christodoulou likes to put in his songs. There's also some annoying dissonant saxophone/guitar stuff in this song that takes me out of the whole experience.

Drakengard 3 - The Final Song 4 It's an ok song but it's pretty boring. The bgm doesn't really go anywhere interesting besides adding some nice nature-y sounds and soft bongo? like drums. The vocals are pretty, but they fail to keep my attention with this 7 minute slog of a song.

Chibi-Robo! Let's Go, Photo! - Staff Roll 5 This song is pretty disjointed, but I enjoyed some of the tunes that were experimented with. Usually I don't really care for songs that go all over the place with little rhyme or reason, and this isn't really an exception, but I can appreciate the little snippets I hear, even if the sum isnt't greater than its parts. It sounds like the composer/mixer had fun experimenting with everything on the DAW lol.

13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim - -[PROTEASE]- 6.5 I like the complexity and variation in the musical ideas. It's like a echo chamber where every sound gets reflected back and builds upon the creation of the next, in a mass of music at the end.

echochrome ii - prime #4507 4 Yeah it's pretty to listen to as you zone out or do other things, but as a piece of music to concentrate on and seriously listen to, I can't say I really like it. The first two minutes and somewhere in the 55 min range had the best motifs, but the rest was just happy elevator music.

DJMAX RESPECT V - Misty Er'a 5 It almost sounded like nothing tbh. Like the vocals were deep and emotional, but without much voice in the actual instrumentation

Amplitude (PS4) - Supraspatial 7 Banger and alien. It's super in every direction.
