And yeah I know people rave about the music but nothing I've heard has grabbed me, especially the main theme. TBF the only DQ I've actually played is a demo of XI, and I know even fans think the music there is meh, so maybe that one's unfair.

Sugiyama was like 85 by DQXI and he's a hardcore conservative boomer that refused to put orchestral music in the Western release.

DQ's music great overall because Sugiyama has an unique style that matches well with Toriyama's art and the general aesthetic of the game. You can generally instantly tell what track is Sugiyama's unlike most JRPG OSTs that all have similar Jpop/prog rock feel to them.

I think the bigger issue with DQXI is that the game took me 90 hours and there's like 10 songs. Okay that's an exaggeration but you definitely hear the same songs again and again and again and it's more noticeable than other JRPGs for some reason.

I also admit that by FFXII, I was heavily into anime for a few years. Persona 3 came out right at the time to be everything I was looking for while XII just...wasn't. Then P4 came and fucking forget it. Persona/T has been my go-to franchise since.

Ys, Takes, Dragon Quest, Atelier, Yakuza: these also got me through the last 10-15 years. FF is not "for me" like it used to be, and that probably has more to do with the anime overload I like.

So, it does seem odd that I would respond more to Eternigyts (Hold R2 to Hold Hands) than XVI.

No. Eternights won't be better. There's no way in hell. It is just more "my type" of game these days

Yeah and half of those songs were recycled from previous games. It's mostly him being old, though he's been phoning it in for some time now. I daresay he spent a week max on DQXI's OST.

The claim that you have to lose menuing when going for action isn't quite right. Just because FFXV did it wrong. FF7R and Stranger of Paradise have more than enough menuing.

7R's menuing sucks, that stupid weapon sphere grid is a huge waste of time. When I played INTERmission I set that on auto and never looked back. The materia stuff is fine, it just needs the ability to save loadouts or something with all the party switching going on.

Weapon upgrades in FF7R would largely be fine if you could swap between weapons with a trigger. Having to go through the BWIIIING animation every time felt like an insane oversight.

My only real problem with XV's visuals was how boring and samey the dungeons looked, they didn't take advantage of the modern setting at all. Hopefully this will improve on that front.

FFXV used so many stock assets from the company they farmed out to that one of the bosses in the game was a generic dragon that said company used to advertise it's software.

Finally got the last Aglaia armor piece I was missing (legs). Just need one more P4 run on Tuesday and Ill have all the gear pieces for DRG from the current (non-savage) raids.

Also got around to Ruby Weapon; if I can push through the rest of that line tomorrow Ill be up to date with all the trial/raid storylines on the Source (unless the tribes unlock some that I dont know about; the only one Ive finished is Ixal and theyre crafting-focused). Just in time for 6.15.
