Dark Souls combat is ok but I also don't care for it. But for other people it's like crack apparently. Probably put 50 hours into souls games overall.

for souls games, the rug that brings the room together is its level design and atmosphere.

What part specifically are you having trouble with?

I personally didnt care for it that much but I wouldnt go as far as saying it was a bad game.

I bounced off Bloodborne hard two times and have never gotten back to it. However, after getting a Platinum in Sekiro I've gone back and beat Dark Souls 1 and 2 and will eventually beat 3 and I imagine I'd like Bloodborne at this point as well. I'm not quite sure why I disliked the From games when they were current but I enjoy them now.

It is a strong contender for my favorite game but its not without its flaws. The limited health resources I suppose made sense from a lore standpoint but it was a big quality of life downgrade.

Also the lack of a direct fast travel was no good. Having to travel to the hub then to your destination along with the loading times becomes a slog

I hate farming for blood vials. I probably wouldn't have to do that if I was any good at the game, but I'm bad, so I have to farm for blood vials, and that's no good

A good early game bullet and vial grind spot is go to the bridge where you fought the Cleric Beast. And kill all of the enemies on the bridge, including the werewolves, and then go through the house, get everyone in there, get the two brick giants outside the house, then go to the first lantern next to Gilbert's house and repeat. Eventually, if you choose to do the chalice dungeons, you'll get so many blood echoes from just regular enemies that you can buy hundreds of vial and bullets no problem.

Also there are hidden damage modifiers that the game hints at but doesn't outright explicitly say. Like the sawblade and sawspear do serrated damage. Beasts are weak to fire and serrated both, so if you put fire paper on a serrated weapon, you're getting a big damage multiplier, making some early game bosses way easier. Pop a beast pellet on top of that, and you're doing even more damage.

Also, beasts are distracted by blood cocktails. This is extremely effective on one boss in particular, the Blood-starved Beast. Throw a cocktail at the wall, and in her first two phases she will completely ignore you and try to drink the blood on the wall. Does not work in the final phase when she's spewing poison everywhere, but if you did enough damage with the fire paper and beast pellet, by the time she gets to her third phase she should be pretty low.

Also, you don't even have to fight the Blood-starved Beast. If you get 10,000 echoes you can buy the cathedral ward key from the bath messengers in the Hunter's Dream and just bypass it. If you're having trouble with BSB, in addition to the strategy outlined above, you can also do this, and go through the Cathedral Ward getting items and echoes, and go through Hemwick Charnel Lane, and beat the Witches and get the Rune Workshop Tool, which if you have found some decent runes, should also help a little bit with BSB. Then the boss of Cathedral Ward is weak to fire and serrated as well, and you can break her limbs, staggering her and opening her up to visceral attacks.

Don't you say this about every souls game?

I get there are options to get vials but if Im fighting the Defiled Amgydala and got one shotted for the 90000th time after using 18 vials I get a little tired of having to go farm every 20 minutes when I just want to fight the fucking boss.

TBF, all of the bosses in the Defiled chalice are garbage except for the last one. Actually a lot of the Chalice bosses are clearly unfinished.

What I did for the Defiled Amygdala is I stayed near its feet, swinging at the arms when I could, and when it jumps I waited a second and rolled in the direction that its feet were and prayed that it didn't land on me. And I was doing an Arcane build as well so it took forever to die. Also if you can summon Queen Killer, he'll aggro the Amygdala for like half of the bosses HP before he dies.

My latest build I did that move where I tried a thousand times and quit then picked the game up two weeks later and did it first try.

Phase 3 is so cheap on that boy, I always try to take him out with range. It was actually super satisfying, I maxed bloodtinge and chipped him down with the arrows from the bowblade, thing almost killed me at the last second but I stood up and shot it in the face with my Evelyn. It was a righteous victory, love me some bloodtinge

I've never actually done a Bloodtinge build but it sounds fun. Actually the 99 Arcane build was super fun. Especially with the late game spells. Kiting bosses around just shooting the Blacksky Eye at them and they can't touch me while also chunking their HP was ridiculous.

Also you can totally do the Micolash cheese with the Blacksky Eye lol

Yeah bloodtinge is real fun, Im the opposite Ive never done an arcane build successfully gonna try to remember to do that next time I pick the game up

same with the bowblade, good times. That weapon actually does viable ranged damage with max bloodtinge, kind of turns the game into easy mode

Nice tat. I got a basic hunters mark tattoo on the back of my arm. Ive considered getting more blood borne tats, funny enough I think one that I considered for a while was the Great Ones Wisdom item. And of course a huge one of Lady Maria which will likely never happen because of the huge amount of detail it would need
